David Moyes disgracefully sacked

Henry Winter is a massive Giggs fan it seems: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-short-term-replacements-for-David-Moyes.html

The Sun have got Van Gaal on the back page.

The whole club is in a right mess.

Moyes's pay-off will be 12 months money under terms of six year deal he signed last July - equates to around £4.5m #mufc

the telegraph are usually spot on. they got hold of the whole ferguson retiring story days before others.

£4.5m for less than a years work eh? didn't realise clowns got so well paid.

Carragher really speaking a lot of sense here. Giving a manager more time when there is no hope is a waste of time. If Moyes had a strong end to the season and there was encouraging signs I'm sure everybody would have gotten behind the man.

However his side have made no improvement in either performance or results, he's lost the dressing room and in his interviews he just makes sorry excuses and comes across as delusional.

That isn't what it says, they say the pay off will be around 4.5mil, which they say is 12 months salary. Meaning he gets 4.5mil a year and will end up with 9 million for this single years work.

It was fairly obvious they wouldn't sign up someone to a 6 year contract without cheaper ways out. Moyes had some room for negotiation, he had a job so if Utd said "we'll give you £40 a week and if we fire you before the 6 years is up we'll give you a pack of walkers and a broken nose" then he might just have turned the job down. But he's also not Mourinho, or Ancelotti, or anyone else of similar quality. Jose would have 5 other offers from top clubs so he had the strong hand in any negotiation. It's why he could refuse anything but say a 4 year contract and a full pay out if they want to fire him. Moyes was never in that position, he was being gifted a job he didn't deserve, outside of making the contract relatively decent compared to staying at Everton for years, then he wasn't going to get much extra.

Absolute snip, think how much he would have cost the club if he stayed another season...

I don't think he had a hope in hell of getting them back into a champs league spot next season, a new manager might, might not, but a better manager should be able to get much much closer. ultimately the massive amount of damage Moyes has done has cost so much more than 5mil already, another year of him I think would just get you further from the top four in terms of how long it will take someone good to "fix" the team.

So the decision to sack Moyes was made months ago but Utd have waited until it's mathematically impossible for the club to make the CL as a clause in his deal means that they now only have to pay him 1 year of his contract. I'm not sure I like the sound of that.

Why, by Feb top four was already out of reach. it might be mathematically impossible now but no one was going to come in and turn them around over night. Since the start of feb you have only failed to win 6 games in the league and you'd have needed to win 5 of those to be ahead of Arsenal at this point, if the end of Feb you've only failed to win 3 games, win all of them and you'd still be behind Arsenal anyway.

Why is it bad to make it official when it could save you 18million pounds, the other 4 years of his contract.

Go on? You want me to explain why I don't like it?

If so, (if true) not only is it pretty ****ty on Moyes to be dragged about making a clown of himself for months when you've already decided to sack him but what about the rest of Utd's season? If you you've accepted that he's the wrong man for the job then make the change there and then and try to salvage the rest of your season rather than be interested in saving a few quid.

Even qualification for the Europa League would have repaid the money needed to fire Moyes 2 months ago.

It's pretty simple. What are you struggling with?

I wanted Baz to elaborate on why he doesn't like the sound of it, in a bit more detail. The season was likely a write off at that point anyway, so it seems quite a reasonable approach. The guy is still leaving the job with £9m, so I don't think he's been screwed over or anything.

Fair enough, I think I agree with DM above though.

I quite like the sound of that personally. I see no reason why someone should be able to under perform so dramatically then get paid 5 years for the privilege.

He will have known the clause was in the contract, so it is what it is.

Why? If it's purely financial then there's no logic to it. As much as people ridicule the Europa League, once you factor in match day revenue and commercial bonuses (or loss of bonuses through less exposure), it's worth more than the extra £18m it would have cost to sack Moyes.
