As the title really.

Moving in to a new house soon and considering a bit of remodelling upstairs to remove the wall between the bathroom and en-suite to convert them in to a single larger bathroom with walk-in shower, twin sink etc. Luckily the two 'long' walls are already shared between the two rooms.
Instead of a 7.5ft x 6ft bathroom and 7ft x 6ft en-suite we'd have a 15x6ft bathroom.

There are only the two of us in the house and we only really use the shower not the bath (I literally haven't used a bath in about 4 years).

There is also a downstairs toilet with sink so there's not really the need for 3 toilets.

Family all live locally so wont have them staying over.

Any thoughts?

I wouldn't just for resale value (if that is a concern at all in future) or if you plan on having kids then separate rooms may be a blessing.

Edit: that was assuming the second person is a wife or girlfriend lol sorry.

I would keep them separate as separate ensuite always sounds appealing on a spec list. Unless you think you'll live there for 30 years and never have kids.

Cheers for the replies so far guys.

My main driver behind this is I know for a fact if we kept the two separate the main bathroom would simply never get used.

Been in our current house now for two years and the bath has been used once by the girlfriend after she'd come in filthy and sore from football.

I would love an en suite my last house had one I miss it. If you decide to have one large bathroom don't go for two sinks as you soon get sick of cleaning two. This is assuming you don't pay someone to clean it for you.

So having two bathrooms is pointless but twin sinks sounds like a good idea :p

Keep the ensuite, they're great.

Ensuites are a proper passion killer.

Nothing like listening to your partner grunting and groaning or tipping a bag of carrots into a bucket to kill the mood.

Ensuites can be good for passion. You can move from the shower to the bedroom without fear of being caught short in the corridor.

Yeah...if your lover is dropping bombs left right and centre next door while you fluff yourself up it's not good, but do your lovers often crap right before sex?

Lol this was also part of our reasoning. Who the hell wants to take a dump in what is effectively the corner of their bedroom?

I would go for one big bathroom with two doors so it can be accessed from the bedroom or landing.

We have a bathroom and ensuite and barely use the main bathroom

While I'm another who has never seen the attraction in en-suites, even when there are guests, it should still be borne in mind that they are popular, and that getting rid of one will reduce the pool of potential buyers, and probably the value.

Walk in shower big enough for two too. For those rare times our morning routines collide. Or you know, soapy fun times!

Is it possible to soundproof an en-suite?

If you keep the rooms separate and don't use the bathroom, then that's less cleaning to do. It also means you'll always have a clean bathroom for guests.

Couldn't be without the ensuite but then my main bathroom is on another floor. If it's going to be a tiny cub board ensuite then I'd be in favour of the large bathroom.
