290x or 780ti - First world problems

If you are going to use water then flip a coin, if you are staying on air the 780ti is a bit more heat friendly when using 2 or more.

Go AMD will save you money in winter :D, no seriously get ti if strict budget or get 2 290x for 640 they're on offer at the moment. but nvidia are better hands down. Less heat better performance and support. If you get evga do step up. AMD has honestly lost direction. Nvidia = quality ; AMD = budge mentioned day

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-164-PC someone has to buy amd products. .. so it pushes nvidia for ppl like me ;)

Haha - I love hearing peoples opinions. I have to admit I was going to go AMD as ive had my 5870 a long long time and been very happy with it (when it wast so old and behind the times). Though this is definately something to consider very seriously what with the other comments above. Hmm god.

What makes you say amd have lost direction?

AMD have been doing very well lately, that MSI 290X lightning you linked in the OP is a beast of a card if you like overclocking.

If you b watch linus tech tips he explains why nvidia are smoother and have better minimum fps. Nvidia drivers are amazing also build quality and support. I was an ex amd fan boy, but now they're graphics cards are running very hot and come out of factory OVERCLOCKED to match nvidia stock,295x2 and 290x good examples. On the design front nvidia look good especially reference coolers with led. Get 2 290x and don't overclock. For 640 you're ready for 4 and will match 295x2 performance at fraction of price. P's amd are in the red by 20 million check their annual accounts. Intel + nvidia all the way baby

Trouble with NVidia is they sell a lot of overpriced stuff like Titan's and GTX 690s.;):D

Solo card the 290x/ 290 is the better option as with aftermarket coolers heat and noise is not an issue and they are substantially cheaper than the nvidia alternatives whilst providing comparable performance.

Ignore comments about drivers, hell when i got 780 and i couldnt play BF3 on the drivers released for the card as it caused major artifacting, point is both side have there issues with drivers and having used both AMD and Nividia i really struggle to see the basis for so much complaint about AMD drivers, i think it just comes down to personal experience.

That being said, if you are going SLI/ CF then two reference 780s are the way to go especially if you can get them second hand!
