I have a new car - with pics

Sooo much better looking than the 5-series, on the outside. I really dont like the interior on these, though :( I wish they had kept it in line with the 222 S-Class.

Obviously looks are subjective - it is no doubt a very handsome car. The rear end is definitely better than the F10 but not massively better, the front end of these I really don't like (too brash, maybe?) and the interior is truly awful IMO (it is too similar to the Vauxhall Astra in looks and quality of the plastics).

That said, the E-Class is a really good car and so is an excellent choice!

I'd have one but as a 2nd choice to the F10 - which'll be why I have the F10, then :D

Looks really are subjective. As I spend all my time inside the car it was the interior I was really looking for the best of. The interior of this car is so much better than that of the equivalent BM. All the BMs I sat in felt very cheap and plasticky. Almost like a 90s Jap car. This feels worlds better.

The aggressive styling of the front, and classic styling of the rear, were positives but by no means the thing that swayed the decision :) I do prefer the exterior styling of the BMW.

I was also appalled by BM customer service.

The interior of the Merc is definitely different. No other car offers a classic 'Cartier' style clock in the middle of the dash console.

Not only that, but you can get the screen to display a bigger version of exactly the same clock :D

I've not sat in the new Merc but I do agree with you regarding the interiors of the new BMW models, from the photographs I've seen I was expecting them to be really nice but only the F10 was bearable, 1 and 3 series just felt too cramped with lots of plastic in your face. I actually prefer my current Jap interior but perhaps that's just due to being familiar with it.

It's less the lights and more the lower splitter for me. The pic I put on doesn't really do it justice but it improves the front for me :)

Not sure what you mean. Was yours a manual? Mine's an auto.

The brake on an auto usually stands proud of the accelerator.

Yeah it was a manual, what I mean is the pedals were slightly offset to the left, as in not straight in front of you, slightly to the left. My boss had a similar feeling in his E class.

Interior like a 90's jap car? Bit drastic eh? :p

Can't remember seeing a Beemer of today with just 4 air vents, a radio, an ashtray and cloth seats.

Nice motor. I did look at an estate version of the E250 CDI AMG Sport before getting my F11. Mostly because I aint old enough for the Merc, but also I found the interior much nicer in the F11 than the E-class.

It's funny how different people opinions can be the complete opposite when considering the exact same thing. I felt the Merc interior to be the cheaper and nastier of the two. Nice enough, but not what I would expect from such an expensive car. Compared to the F10/F11 which was perfectly suited IMO.

I also wasn't a huge fan of the exterior looks of the new Merc, but it has grown on me somewhat. It was the biggest estate in it's class too, which was a big plus when considering it, as well as being almost £200 per month cheaper (on PCP). In the end, I couldn't live with the cheaper feeling interior and the old man / taxi image.

Would have one for free though as a company car. But would even take a lesser engine to go for a BMW.

Never the less, it is still a nice car, and will be a pleasant mile muncher.

p.s. AMG Sport is bodykit and other spec only. No engine remaps. They do a Brabus remap for these I think, for around £1k - 1.5k. Keeps Merc warranty and everything too, and gives pretty decent gains. Available straight from the dealer too.

Perhaps it is a little harsh, but I called to mind the celica St205 I sat in some time ago as soon as I got in it.

That didn't have cloth seats.

Is that the AMG E class? My colleague had one for a month and then swapped it for an ML350 AMG. Nothing wrong with it as such he just got fed up with a few niggles like the EML coming on and he wished he'd got it in white. IIRC it has a 3ltr turbo (derv), nothing happened when you put a foot down and then a second or two later it kicked in. Auto box was very very smooth, same engine in the ML350 but obviously it's a lot heavier.

The AMG is a 6.3 petrol in both of those.
