Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds high school

RIP Miss Maguire,

I didn't know her but that's her name. Seemed a very pleasant friendly lady in her photo.

Absolutely tragic, both for her and her family and for those young innocents who have had to witness something as brutal and tragic as this so early in their lives.

Daughter was in the class opposite and saw the lad come in with the knife before screaming started and they were all ushered out. Amelia is devastated - by all accounts (I only met her once) but Anne was a proper mother figure teacher, recently retired and helping part time, used to be a head of year, and one of the most lovely human beings you could hope to meet.

Lad was a typical "loner" type and there were rumours of social media threats to "any teacher" over recent days.

Indeed, he'll probably only get 3 years in a young offenders' institution. IMO, he should get a sentence closer to what the Bulger brothers got. Think it was a minimum term of 10 years before parole.

Ten years doesn't feel long enough, _if_ this is as bad as it sounds I'd feel quite comfortable locking him up until 35 and telling him he should count himself lucky.

The "voices from God" type? Quite a few of those around on these forums...

I wouldn't be. Even someone who has committed a crime such as the topic of this thread could be rehabilitated. When you have someone so young, they can still change to be someone decent.

Sorry Burnsy, I disagree.

15 is still well old enough to fully appreciate the right and wrong of what you are doing. If it was my mum he had stabbed to death, I'd want him in prison for 20 years minimum. I think you probably would too.

Prison isn't just about punishment - it's not just about the victims but making sure we're not locking up people that don't need to be in prison. I believe that some people can't be rehabilitated and do need to stay locked up, but the younger someone is the more likely it is that they can be rehabilitated.

These types of cases are rarely simple.

Just wait for the "kid played call of duty and gta" crap to start. Rip hope the sick brat gets a long time behind bars.

Well, given that there is little doubt of his guilt, I see little value in a trial. Take him to the town square and put a bullet in his head. It will save us all a great deal of money.

Well on the upside at least you have no influence to do such a crazy thing. Summary execution is not a sign of a civilized society.

You disagree that someone so young has the ability to be rehabilitated?

Surely there is a line here. Too little a punishment/rehab and he'll likely not learn or change, too much and he'll give up and have spent more time in prison than outside and not have a chance in hell to have rehabilitated.

He took this ladies life while she was doing her great job brightening the futures of the young students. Why should he then have the pleasure of his own after a few years in a nice room with Playstation, TV and the like.

Snuff the little chump out now.

-save money
-save effort that can be better directed at worthy cases

rehabilitation for this is an utter waste of time.

Going through the motions of a trial when there are so many witnesses seems pointless. Civilization is not measured by it's pointless bureaucracy.

That said, I was being a bit bombastic. By all means give him a trial, then stick a bullet in his head.
