Firefox 29?

Okay so I have my home browser sorted now too. When the new UI came out in nightlies months ago I wasn't a fan but this seems nice now.

mrk, have you tried to centre the address bar by padding it out with buttons? I've found FF29 has slightly grown on me, but I don't like how the address bar is on the left hand side. That could by my own fault though, because I had the menu bar to the left of my address bar before FF29.

stylish works for websites (for example my dark ocuk theme is running fine). if you mean purely for customising the firefox UI then your old scripts may well be obsolete given the changes.

i've not tried any of these but i saw a few customisation addons listed on another forum...

edit: this as well https://addons.mozilla.org/ro/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

Yeah, I liked that feature. One of mrk's scripts had the sliding out tray.

Liking the new UI but some add-ons/stylish that affected the UI stopped working (main one being tabs in titlebar).

Need to find a userstyle that can make the home button match with the new pinned tabs as that's where I set the button to be.

On Firefox for Android the change from a progress circle to a progress bar is a nice change.

Sort of, it's how I've always had it really.

I've gone back to square tabs as it looks more vintage to me, feels "right".

I have over 15 extensions installed, all work fine too. Nice!

hotkey for the menu bar is ALT so that auto shows it if needed, stays hidden at all other times. Keeps things clean.

Anyone know how to get the tabs below the URL bar on 29? It's ignoring the browser.tabs.ontop command. :(

Also would like the little bar at the bottom back where I put the plugin menus.

Edit: Looks like you need to use plugins to do that. I couldn't stand not having these in the correct place. :o

I just switched to palemoon when they started making the firefox ui look and act like chrome, from what I've read online I'm not the only one who didn't want the changes....

I prefer firefox over chrome, just not the look so rather than using 'another' plugin to make it act the way it used to I just switched to one that is still using the 'classic' look while giving me the proper download window :)

If I really wanted a browser that looks and acts like chrome (lets be honest it's pretty similar) I'd just get chrome (or one of the 'less google' chromium builds)

I am furious about this recent update. Ive already taken most of my anger our on the poor guys over at forums.mozillazine.org.

They have basically copied chrome, I think google's donations to mozilla has dictated design decisions and a result they have now removed all the features from firefox that stood it apart from the competition. Now when people try google chrome or firefox they get the same experience. The only people happy about this is going to be google who i am sure the most recent update was exactly what they wanted.

Now they have finally removed the status bar (aka addon bar) and finally permanently removed the tabs on bottom option. It was removed in an earlier version but the default theme still supported it without extensions if you changed an option in about:config.

Someone has released an extension that brings back the old options and theme but I don't like the idea of having to depend on a third party addon for basic ui configuration.

So now to get a status bar i have to install an addon bar extension and a status bar extension.

google chrome design checklist.

1) ugly blue background for the tabs row
2) curved tabs
3) tabs on top
4) square button on right for options.
5) no status bar

Ugly design v1.0 firefox v29 chrome clone attempt v1. List of ugliness.

1) The mouse-over red cross to close tabs is ugly
2) blue background of tab row is ugly
3) rounded edges to the tabs is ugly not smooth enough and angle is too rounded.
4) Unable to read inactive tabs.
5) ugly mouse over effect on inactive tabs
6) new tab animation is ugly
7) switch tab animation is ugly
8) unable to distinguish between inactive tabs when tab row is full
9) blue background does not suit aero close buttons and creates jagged edges.
10) default configuration of new menu is ugly. zoom and clipboard tools take up half the menu.
11) annoying and ugly "power button" on the new menu
12) Massive sign in to sync strip is ugly.

As you can see the left hand side is v28 with my current config after deleting the bookmarks for privacy reasons. The one on the right is the v29 with the old theme addon. You can see the differences.

Im sticking with 28 and probably might go back to the v24 ESR and fail that move to a completely different fork of firefox due to this.

I don't mind FF29,its fast and stable and all my extensions work except ForecastFox.

If i used tabs on top then i wouldn't mind either but I like tabs on bottom and status bar, is that too much to ask for?

Its crazy that they removed those features and there is realy no good justification for removing those features. Its basically went like this, they had this chrome theme that they want to use to make firefox look like chrome, this new chrome theme has been around since v18 or something but never made default. Instead of writing the necessary code to allow the statubar and tabs on bottom to continue working they simply decide to move it on frivolous grounds.

Granted there are some elements which bugs me, but it's not enough to put me off and roll back. I do admit it is trying to be like Chrome UI wise however. Would be nice if I could move the menu button to the left, but it seems to be the only thing I can't move.

But in terms of how it renders webpages still makes it my prefered browser.

Tabs BELOW the urlbar?

Didn't realise we had freaks on this forum :p

It's the correct place for them. The window includes the URL bar/favourite bar etc. and the Tab bar chooses what you see below it. It was driving me mad having it at the top. It is quite simply wrong having tabs on the top.

I also need something at the bottom of the window (i.e. addons bar) as I have my taskbar on the right of the window. :p

I like the changes - cleaner looking and it seems a bit more snappy. I only have about two add-ons so nothing has broken.

Rolling back to FF28 or gonna find another browser, thanks for removing the tabs on bottom option FF, way to screw me over automatically with no warning. It was the *tabs on top* thing that put me off the new IE and Chrome, i liked that FF gave me the power i needed to have things positioned how i wanted, now everything is forced upon the user and any critique is responded to with "install this addon" or "install that addon" ... pfftt.. what a cop out..

Might have to switch to Opera, just so i can avoid Chrome..

Check out the sad ratings since the update, lol...
