What did he do, I mean the actual offences he was found guilty of, was it exposure, groping over clothes, or groping under clothes?

Regardless, he got off lightly, on the other hand for someone previously in so lofty a position it will be hard to sink into obscurity once he's out of prison.

It's probably a bit more than is probably lawful given other cases tbh. The Judge gave him the highest sentence he possibly could.

Nasty stuff. Interesting to note that the sentence would be, probably, well in excess of twice as long if the offences were after 2003 (that 12-year-old one wasn't even a chargeable one under former laws!)

Not really. Judges need to give sentences that will stick and not be reduced by the court of appeal.

Except that the judge was very clear that he was limited by the different sentences that were applicable back then (2 yrs max) and the fact that by today's legislation a lot of what he did would be considered rape now.

I'm not sure I agree with the idea that you can only be sentenced in accordance to the laws at the time of the offence tbh but there we go.

He didn't get off lightly considering the sentencing restrictions that Judge had to abide by though.

I still don't get why they can't sentence him using the modern guidelines....what does the passing of time have to do with it??
