Daily Mail pays damages to J K Rowling

I would suggest your in the abnormal group. But everyone here hates the DM as its a easy whipping boy for the liberals and lefties to bash..

ps - I read the i

Liberal or lefty? Anyone with a brain should be able to tell that the DM is lavatorial pulp. I mean, it just seems to make stuff up on a daily basis.

Forget it, you're in GD where tax avoidance is admired and something to aspire to.

After all, why should J.K Rowling pay a single penny towards the schools whose libraries stock her books, or the hospitals that look after 99% of her readership, or the police who help ensure people don't just steal the latest in the Harry Potter series from Waterstones, or the roads that are used to distribute her books all over the country? ;)

She should have just got a job like everyone else. :D

The DM is not a bad paper because it's Right Wing, it's a bad paper because it tells a lot of lies, even by tabloid standards. As the courts have found many many times. Worse yet, they don't care. And it's popular because it appeals to the sort of people who think that UKIP has good policies.

Which are what type of people? stop beating around the bush.

JK gave the DM a beating in court. She had to go back to court to request to read the apology before it was printed as DM refused to let her read it.

On top of that if you look at Mail Online, there is a separate topic labeled JK Rowling which contains the apology rather than DM dumping it in the Corrections and Clarifications section.

She is the DM living nightmare, single mother formerly on benefits who supports Labour

DM - Thought Hitler was generally speaking a good bloke.
DM - Regularly taken to court for outright lies and libelous material.

DM Reader - Happy to give their money to a pro-nazi organization and does not care about their views being backed up by truth.

J K Rowling wrote her first Harry Potter book when she was living on benefits. She feels that she owes this country something. The country invested in her and now she wants to invest back into the country.

Good on her. :)

Indeed! I wish everyone who was as successful felt the same way. Aggressive tax avoidance is much more of a problem to the UK treasury then benefit fraud ever could be.

Tax is the price we pay for living in a civilised country.

lol....not sure if genius or just making a lucky connection.

Indeed - the viewpoint of the daily mail at the time...
“I urge all British young men and women to study closely the progress of the Nazi regime in Germany. They must not be misled by the misrepresentations of its opponents. The most spiteful detractors of the Nazis are to be found in precisely the same sections of the British public and press as are most vehement in their praises of the Soviet regime in Russia. They have started a clamorous campaign of denunciation against what they call “Nazi atrocities” which, as anyone who visits Germany quickly discovers for himself, consists merely of a few isolated acts of violence such as are inevitable among a nation half as big again as ours, but which have been generalized, multiplied and exaggerated to give the impression that Nazi rule is a bloodthirsty tyranny.”

A truly lovely paper.
