Antichrist

Apparently the director hates women if that's any help and I don't mean gay, he just has a hatred of them. Will try and find a source when I get home.

It's a myth that came about because of the content of antichrist and was then copy and pasted over all his other work.

Can believe it, maybe that's why I can't for the life of my find the original article now.

From what I remember of the film, the female character is actually doing a research paper or something into gynocide (which still goes on today in certain societies) and how women have been portrayed through religious and contemporary literature throughout history as evil, from Eve defying God onwards. Taking the film at face value, it would be easy to say Von Trier hates women. But the female lead goes on to have a complete breakdown and through her depression and possibly because of her work it reinforces to her that she is infact evil and is being punished by God. That's what I took from it anyway. It's a film about darkness and depression and the concept of good and evil more than it is a film about "women are intrinsically evil". Antichrist falls into his "depression" trilogy.
