Hello All,
I don't know if I have posted this in the correct part of the forum but, I have a Samsung LE19R88BD 1080i HD LCD TV, that seems to have issues turning on after power has been turned off for a period of time.

When I turn the TV on right after turning the powerstrip on the tv seems to turn right off and comes back on all the time and this seems to keep happening until I turn the tv off again and back on and it is then fine. When I leave my TV standing for lets say 15-20 minutes with power going to it and then turn it on it is fine.

The TV is roughly 6 years old.

What could this be? could it be that the caps inside the tv are not fully charged?

Cheers,
Shane

My 3.5yr samsung monitor started having power issues and eventually would only display a screen for 1-2 secs when flicking the power on and off. It was solved with a new invertor and PSU. Maybe yours is showing early signs.
I repaired it only because it is a 1200p monitor rather than a 1080, it cost about £90 so was marginal, any more and I would have bought new probably.

Samsung *might* repair it for nowt because it IS one of the known faults of their LCD tvs but as its been 6 years so dunno.

I remember my old samsung plasma did similar a few years back i got the psu replaced and its still going strong (gave it to my sister)

Ok sound, but if it is the PSu or inverter would you say it is worth replacing bearing in mind the TV is 6 years old. Didn't even know it was a known fault tbh.

It sounds like the Samsung capacitor <cough>planned obsolescence<cough> issue to me, you might be able to get a replacement board from Ebay it should just be a straight swap if so.

I think that it doesn't matter what manufacturer you have but as long as the faults (If occur) are fixable and there are spares about then manufacturer shouldn't be a big issue.

Surely if they did this, you would switch to a different manufacturer?

You can usually buy replacement boards off Ebay but yeah I currently have a Panasonic.

A wide variety of Samsung TV's (even monitors) have had this issue for about 10yrs and I find it hard to believe their engineers can't fix it, back in about 2008 when my first TV did it the general concensus on AVForums (I think) was that they were using too low value capacitors.

Lots more as well if you Google Samsung capacitors.

that's most likely the cause then but it the issue with my tv set which I forgot to mention seems to be intermittent. as sometimes it's fine after being off at the wall and others is having issues starting up.

As the capacitor(s) degrades it will gradually get worse until the set won't turn on at all.

My samsung 46 inch lcd 1080p tv has had this problem for couple of years sometimes tv turns on by itself but more often when turning it off keeps turning back on again an then I pull the mains plug out gets on my nerves others times Its normal for days at a time TV is about 5 or 6 years old.
I keep my TV in stand by mode most of the time will be buying a Sony Lcd TV next time for sure.
