Will I need to upgrade my PSU for the 780ti?

They do not just spit out a higher number for the PSU, its to give headroom for OC and as not all PSU's are made equal.

I would not trust a no-name 1000watt PSU to be anywhere near 1000watt and at end of the day its the Amps on the GPU 12v rails that matters.

Would a good 500watt be safe, probably yes but risk all your hardware if/when it blows.

Go all out and get this, the best money can buy 650watt and Triple fans!!!!!

Your rig you've quoted will use <350w when running. Graphics cards when overclocked and overvolted use a hell of a lot more over stock, if you're planning on overclocking and playing with high voltage then get a different PSU (or if you want silence, as that PSU is noisy)

If you're keeping stock voltage on the GPU or sticking to Nvidia's 1.21v then it wont really draw *that* much more tbh.

Run your 4770k + stock 780ti and see what you're drawing from the wall. Not prime+furmark loads, gaming loads/3D11 etc. Then run again without extra volts but overclocked. See what the difference is.

OP you need a decent 750W + PSU. Ocing your CPU will use a lot of power up & the 780 Ti needs a decent 600W PSU (780Ti draws 250W alone but when oced it uses a lot more than that!!).

All PSU do not produce 100% efficency (80-90% at best is the average even on high end models) so to save any hassle from PSU issues try to buy a much stronger & more expensive PSU look to spend around £130-150+ otherwise you could well end up causing damage with a PSU which does not supply enough amps.

If an inferior PSU blows under heavy load it can potentially damage/destroy: CPU/GPU/RAM/motherboard or several of those at once.

Never ever skimp on the PSU ;)

Same old speculation all the time you need this you need that. I will leave you with this

But there's proof in the video, It's not hot air there's actual proof from a digital readout

Out of curiosity which PSU do you run?

I've said this time and again

The PSU is the heart of your machine - you don't cut corners and run the minimum required.

Why on earth someone would pay over a £1000 on a rig,
then try and save £30-40 is beyond me

I have a 4770k @ 4.6ghz and a 780ti at 1250\8000 and I barely see 400w being used.

A strong 12v line is what is required. Only amateurs buy PSU's based on the wattage...:)

If buying the machine from scratch 100% agree, when upgrading an existing machine where the current PSU is strong enough, nope. As it's not £30-40 it's £100+.

My current PSU is a superflower 500w passive unit :)
