2014 Chilli Growers Thread

My Poinsettia chillies are doing well. 9 of 12 germinated, and I discarded 3 of the weaker ones to concentrate on these 6. The tallest is just over 12 inches now and they're starting to bug. I'm going to:

- remove buds from all at this stage, to encourage a little more growth
- pot on into bigger pots for more root growth and ability to hold more moisture
- take two into the office :)
- of the remaining four, leave two as is but top out two more and see if they really bunch up before starting to grow up again

Lol someone forgot about those and left them in the window for ages without turning them didnt they! :P Bottom of those plants have almost a 70 degree bend before they obviously crept up the window!

Rotate my plants 90 degrees every day so they don't get lopsided lol

While I've been fretting over the Naga, the Cayennes have been quietly just getting on with it. This is the one in the greenhouse.

Looks to be enough on there for a large batch of Thai Green Curry :D

The one in the living room is roughly the same.

Next year i'll have to get in on this, bit late now. I grew myself a fair simple birdseyes on the windowsill last year but forgot to do it again. Moving house soon though so next year I should have a nice outdoor setup.

Saying that, i'm quite jealous, I'd like to be doing it now!

Buds? I have nothing of the sort. I'm getting some 5ltr pots ordered ready though for the plants that are getting big.

Latest update on my indoor plants. Here's me sat just in front of them for scale:

On the far left, partly in shot, is a regular bell pepper; next is the Hotscotch; in the middle (behind/above my head) is the Scotch Bonnet; next is the Naga Bhut Jolokia and at the far right is a Cayenne I've been using as a pollen donor for the Chinenses.

The Hotscotch, I suspect, is some sort of Habanero. The pods are not very big - about the size of a 10p piece. There are currently 30+ pods at varying stages of development - quite a few appear to be full grown.

The Scotch Bonnets I'm a little suspicious about. They don't have the classic "Bonnet" shape. Also, all the articles I've read say the plant should be bushy and about 50cm tall - mine is not bushy at all (basically straight up) and is now over 1m tall. I have 7 pods, all pretty much full grown - about 1.5" in diameter and 2" long. All the pods developed quite a while ago but I've had no new ones since.

The Naga is doing quite well now. I'm still getting a fair bit of flower drop but, since I started hand pollinating with pollen from the donor Cayenne, I'm starting to see some promising progress. I now have 11 mature pods and another 8 that have recently started to develop. Pods are about 3/4" in diameter and close to 2" long. looking good.

Finally, a quick shot of the Cayenne. Pods are about 3"-3.5" long.

Hehe way back I warned the nagas are more or a shrub/mini tree lol.

They're looking good - nice sized naga fruit on them. I found mine to give smaller fruit on the first year, larger initial fruit (more fruit less resources each has). The ferocious heat was the same for both years!
