LG G3 **discussion**

I still want to want the Sony with its stereo speakers and Fm radio but I am still concerned about its angular design. I think I want this more

I like the curved back on this.. the Z2 was flat and had sharp edges, it didnt feel that nice. I may just get this instead.
Hope its waterproof and priced right. The G2 was only £399 on launch.

Am I wrong in saying the LG G3 looks like it might be the best looking phone ever made to date?

What a Korean beauty.

The lack of the Snapdragon 805 SoC is a bit disappointing - for people buying a phone for the long haul it would have been nice to have the future-proofing.

I'm pretty confident that this will be real metal, and just not just a plastic effect. However, as with the rear panel of the G Pad 8.3, I don't think it will feel anywhere near as premium as the M8.

The size is a bit of a concern too, as several of you have already mentioned. Maybe there's a non-gimped "mini" 5-inch version in the works also?!

So from those links:

801 SoC
Laser assisted auto focus
3GB Ram
2560x1440 Resolution
IPS Screen
32GB Memory on board
MicroSD slot
Sony Exmor R camera with OIS+ (OIS+ is currently on the LG PRO 2)
Ships with android 4.4.2 + LG knock code
Expected to be IP 67 dust and water resistant

Definite buy for me.

I haven't kept up with the news - why are folks making a big deal about the SoC within the phone? I presume it isn't because folks want the latest and greatest just for the sake of it.

For me it's more about justifying the upgrade. My N5 has the S800, so going to the S801 isn't a huge change, but the S805 is that little bit more, just makes me feel a bit better about spending the money on it.

But there's definitely an aspect of the latest and greatest about it. Also as the S805 would be the absolute newest, there would be a longer time before it gets replaced/out of date, whereas the S800/S801 are that bit older.

This is looking like a likely instant purchase for me too.

The S5 "prime" (if it actually is real/sold over here) would be the only competition really.

However from the rumours they're likely to have the same/very similar specs (bar the difference in screen size), so Samsung would have to really nail it with the design to beat the G3, which looks simply stunning from the leaks so far.

Blimey, the N5 is a new phone though afaik - just a good 4-5 months old? I agree going from an 800 to an 801 is small and imo quite a waste. I haven't looked at how high cpu frequencies go on the 805's just yet or any other specs for that matter.

I am currently on a Oppo Find 5 and it's S400 soc is blazingly fast enough for everyday usage with kitkat but the battery life due to some hardware issue is just dire overall. The main reason I want to move on is because this thing hasn't 4G.

find 5 is VERY laggy compared to my n5 :o

 What rom mate? The only lag I've had on our F5 was with the initial stock butchered JB rom. I've mainly used Cyanogen in the past and now Omnirom and they've been very smooth, fluid experiences.

I am leaning strongly towards the G3 now as for some reason I don't feel like getting the Find 7...not sure why just yet.

I got it on release, so that's a little over 6 months now. Overall it's a fantastic phone, but there's a few little things that are making me want to move over.

The camera and battery life are good, but not fantastic, and are a fair bit better on the new phones. Both are quite important to me, so it's worth moving over if there's a good update there.

Also the lack of storage space on the Nexus is just annoying. I store a lot of stuff on my phone, and even with the 32GB version I'm bumping into limits of what I can store, and cloud storage isn't really an option for me.

As for the S805, it's reported to be somewhere between 2.5 and 2.7 GHz, however it's a (somewhat) improved architecture as well, moving from Krait 400 cores to 450s. There's also a large improvement in the GPU design, promising around 50% better performance if I remember correctly, rather than just the clock speed increases on the 801 (relative to the 800).

currently sits on pacrom :o

launcher for e.g. is seriously laggy.. - tried a few different ones..

maybe I just got used to insta-response-n5 and now when I pick find 5 it just feels slow

With a Quad HD res phone, i would want the latest and greatest for games - Soc 805 has the adreno 420 in it which is 40% faster than its predecessor apparently

Surely the 801 issue is only a concern for people who game on their phone?

Well from a general performance point of view, more = better. In this scenario at least.

I doubt the lack of 805 would be a complete deal breaker for me, but given the option of 801 or 805, I'm sure all of us would prefer the 805.

Ok, with regards to the differences I see where you're coming from now - especially on the GPU front as Jono8 has just mentioned. 2.5 and 2.7ghz speeds though

Hehe, I tried PAC on my S3 a while back and it felt too 'heavy' in use and got sluggish over a few days use. Tried it once at the start of this year on the Find 5 iirc - and I weirdly had the same experience. It just had too much stuff going on that I personally didn't require, hence Omnirom being my main driver for quite a while.

Ok fair do's there. I haven't done any gaming on Android (did on my iPhone) as I find that battery life just gets hit too hard and I am sick of IAP games (more or less all of them!) nowadays.
