is my 780ti SLI benchmark ok?

Just an update on my original post and to reign this topic back to on topic... I have found that my results were lower than expected, as I originally thought! Once I set a fan speed in Precision X (with no OC) I was instantly seeing better results both in games and in Firestrike. Crysis 3 went from 40fps in some areas to 60fps (v-sync on) and Firestrike went from 16150 to above 7k. In fact with no OC and fan speeds set to kick in at 80% when reaching 83 degrees I got a 17425 score - link to score

Obviously with the G1 sniper the cards are quite close together at the bottom of the case, which is why I am needing to kick in the fans at a higher speed. Annoying for sound, but I guess that's why I have headphones.

As for the memory issue, well that seems to have fixed itself... but I do on occasion get D4 (or 04) debug LED when I start up... restarting the pc seems to fix this. I have checked my memory overnight by running memtest86 and found 0 errors, so I guess the memory is fine.

this is the system.

Overall I am happy with it, but I obviously didn't get the same sense of achievement from the system that I have done in the past building my own.

A few issues though: -

1) The green LED's are not being sold by OCuk anymore so I had to change the memory

2) The new G1 Sniper Z97 is out - so make sure you go for that mobo and change the LED's to red to match the new Sniper colour scheme.

3) The secondary HDD was not connected properly.

4) I went for SLI 780 ti Gigabyte Windforce OC, but since receiving the build I have heard some horror stories involving gpu artifacts at stock settings whilst using 3dmark11 and Batman Arkham games (not tried either of those to find out yet). Also the cards are loud! They are not loud at stock fan speeds, but then playing games are useless at stock fan speeds! And don't believe the 450 watt fan rubbish. The card runs hot and I have to use a custom fan setting to make the most out of the cards. So to sum them up I would say very loud and noisy. I would go for other brands if I were you! For example my 670 SLI setup never goes near the threshold so never downclocks at stock, whereas my 780 ti's get to the threshold instantly.

5) Had some memory issues in Win8 which seem to have been fixed

6) secure boot isn't working on my system

8) No disc drive in the options, so buy your own.

9) 4770k is overclocked to 4.4GHz, but I checked the voltage and they have set it to 1.34, so the chip I have seems not to be a good overclocker.

10) That damn D4 debug code keeps rearing it's ugly head!

The good points: -

1) The case. Wow that case is the best case I have owned. Get the Corsair 540 Cube case... brilliant.

2) The CPU air heatsinks are very effective and they also cool the RAM

3) Once using Precision X to sort out the horrible fans on the GPU's, the system does fly - although I would prefer to have broken 17k Firestrike on my first attempt! (I'm really picky and my eyes pick up fps dips very easily. I'm and editor and director - so visuals are important to me as are constant frame rates).

4) Did I mention the case? WOW.

5) The 1TB SSD flies. I haven't timed the boot, but from pressing the power button to the win8 login screen it must have been under 20 seconds. Very fast boot times.

Overall I would say a 4/5, but I don't want to write a review on OCuk until I have fully tested the machine over a few weeks. I hope this helps!

Haha I guess I'm just picky!

No I am using the same for both, but one card does run much hotter than the other, so when I get home I'm going to change the fan settings dependent on card placement. Oddly, even though the bottom card is getting hot air blown on it from the top card it seems to run much cooler, which leads me to believe that maybe one card is faulty? I will give different fan settings for each card a go and see if it reduces noise levels and stays below 83c.

Don't get me wrong, the system is good clean and tidy with not leads and wires to be seen (this is mainly due to how the case works) but I get the sense it may have been rushed a little. Also, OCuk do you really need to cram in that much material into the case to keep the components safe? I had a heck of a job taking the inside packaging out! I think you may have made it less safe in travel as it was stuck inside the case spreading the components apart and was near impossible to get the padding out without putting force on the components!!

Just an update. I think the fans run idependant of each ither depending on temps anyways... is this right? Anyways, I have managed to get a fan profile that works at 90% once it get's to a 80c.

Only slightly, but I get a 200 point difference in Firestrike from 90% to 100% and would rather the slight performance hit than that terrible noise;) Does anyone know if running the fans at that speed all the time could wear them out quicker over time or are the designed to run at 100%?

I'm not sure but 5+ hours a day gaming with a 100% fan speed may have an effect in the long run, 2 or so hours might be ok though. Do they get that hot with every game or just Crysis 3 and Metro LL?

I called OCuk to see if I could send back both Gigabyte 780ti windforce cards due to the fact that they really don't work well with aftermarket fans in SLI. The temps are insane and I get throttling all the time.

OCuk were kind enough to accept the return and suggested the EVGA 780Ti stock instead (not the supercharge).

I hope I'm making the right choice and I hope I win the GPU lottery as I want to be able to OC to the clock speeds of what I have now. Even if I only manage to get close I can deal with that. The noise and temps right now are just insane and unbearable.

Still rising up over 83c, so pretty poor. I have noticed they are not selling the windforce as option as part of the system build anymore... maybe they realised that it was a bad decision to add aftermarket gpu cooler cards in SLI?

Reference coolers are great for SLi and 3 way SLi. While you may not get the super low temperature result you get as single card compared to ACX, HerculeZ, TwinFrozr coolers they do an amazing job in getting heat outside the case instead of dumping it inside and making a second GFX rise in temperature or other components.
I have 3x 780 sandwiched and the middle card hits around max 83°c but normally the top and middle card however around 79~80°c with the default fan profile and normal clock speeds. The boost clock is still good at these temps. The bottom card is 3-4°c cooler under all circumstances. As for noise - I haven't had a more silent air based 3 way SLi setup ever before. Fanspeed is around 54% max (auto) for the top, middle card and 47% for the bottom card.
The noisiest 3 way SLi setup I ever had was with 3x GTX 280's.
