It's quite easy to explain though, although border agency did not see rise in immigration, national insurance registrations were up because all the people that were already here (either on temporary NI numbers, studying or working in black economy) finally could register for NI and/or started paying taxes. It's actually good thing.

Why should we be biased towards EU migrants and let anyone in instead of allowing people in by skills?

Because people on continent don't ask you for skills when you ef off to wander around Europe during your gap year and they don't ask for skills when your parents retire in Spain or Portugal? ;)

I'm 34 and I have never voted in anything but a couple of local elections. I have been known to spoil my ballot in the past however.

I think the modern western world is trapped at the moment. The next big political idea has yet to arrive in the consciousness of the average person. We are still just playing out the continuation of the post cold war 20th century and don't want to let it go.

Look at the revival of all things retro lately. We take digital pictures on our smart phones and use filters to make them look old and analogue, music is borrowing heavily from the 80s and 90s but no new genres are emerging. UKIP is another strand of this; a way for people to cling onto the ideas of the past because nobody can give / see a better vision of the future. I feel we have painted ourselves into a corner somewhat, left and right has been replaced by management consultants and performance targets. I want to be inspired to vote, but the past shows us political inspiration is often dangerous. So for now we are trapped in a status quo, where the idea of the individual and what the individual can attain is the current vision for society. The "selfie" is about as close you will get to a radical new youth movement these days...

I believe it will be a technology breakthrough that sets the next path for us and a new vision for the West but until then I can’t imagine I will vote. I wonder how people will look back on this time in history…

You view is nothing new either.

Good lord! You'd argue black was white and then get promptly run over the next time you used a zebra crossing!

rob, please go away, congratulations, UKIP have probably won.

I bet you're one of those people who gloat and rub things like this in peoples faces eh? ;)

It was like that time it was Blu-Ray Vs HD-DVD on some forums. You could see from a mile off that Blu-ray was going to become the dominate format but dumb-***** convinced themselves it was going to be the inferior format with less studio support!

The whaling and beating of chests was afterwards was incredible, i really tried to steer them right before hand but would they listen? No!

Let's be reasonable here, it was nothing like that, was it.

Thankfully no-one I spoke to at the polling station was voting UKIP. In fact, a lot felt motivated by UKIP's campaign to come out and vote... for someone else.

This is in a fairly affluent part of London.

My parents were like this, they weren't going to vote in the euro election but considering the vile filth the UKIP is broadcasting they and all it takes for evil to prevail is good honest people to do nothing they felt motivated to go and vote. Probably green or lib dem
