warm weather 290 temps

I remember this part, a very demanding part for sure. :)

Thanks.

So what crossfire seems to do compared to one 290 is keep the framerate between the 55-60 mark with 4 MSAA in 1920x1080p compared to 45-35. Does it dip below that on any part of that level?

Thanks.

It didn't on the part i played, no. This is one of the most demanding parts in the whole game from memory.

I know. :) I suppose 8 MSAA would cripple framerates on this level even on crossfired 290's?

Yep.

Some nice results there LtMatt :)

I've returned my 290 to the seller, so now contemplating whether to buy another or go to the dark side and buy a 780 lol

Also not sure to buy second hand again as at least with brand new can return to shop for replacement / RMA. I suppose you still can return it either way if it is broken... hmmm...

None of you guys see crashes when your cards get up to 90-95C then?

Nope, no crashes.

Get one of these. Much cooler than a reference card. ;)

£10 cheaper at a competitor...

:) - Going to W/C anyway so not bothered about the fancy coolers

A nice Powercolor 290X for £349.99 as well

I like the 290 PCS+ that is what you have isn't it LtMatt? I've just taken two 7950 PCS+ out of my PC (sad to seem them go).

Also some HIS reference 290 cards in the Clearance section on OCUK @ £259.99....

Furry muff, get the cheapest reference card you can then.

I have a couple of reference 290 vtx cards. Ocuk no longer sell them, but basically the same as the only vtx 290 card Ocuk sell, apart from the cooler.

Ah so you were allowing the gpu's to reach the temp target? That explains things somewhat. How bad was the throttling?

Yeah I'm letting it run at it's max temp target.
No throttling:

The dip was me tabbing out :p

You could've told me that earlier you swine! :D

Interesting its actually getting to 94c and not throttling. Mine gets to 94c (if i let it) and will throttle a varying amount depending on what speed i have the fan at.

:D
Yeah I've never seen the card throttle. I have the max fan speed at 100% though. Do you?

I use a custom profile, but maybe i should try your approach. Playing bf4 though i expect the fan will rev up much higher than 50%, even with undervolting.

How gamer can not have noise cancelling headphones ???
Asus Volcan ANC here for like 2 years now best investment i made on sound side.

Sound quality superb and they got active I DONT CARE button. With that enabled i dont care about:
Phone calls
washing machine
loud neighbours
door bell
Loud pc fans ect.

When im gaming I dont give a **** about nothing. They are perfect for that :D

Noise cancelling is not the same as noise ISOLATING. Noise cancellation is good against low frequency drone type outside noise and will help with fan noise.

Noise isolation is better at combating all types of outside noise, like talking.

A lot of the proper high end cans use open designs and are well worth it, as long as the outside noise is not STUPID loud then the volume of whatever you are listening to is enough.

I don't which one of those a G35 is, noise cancelling or noise isolation. What i do know is it blocks out fan noise, woman noise and tv noise very effectively.

Yeah most likely as BF4 has Mantle. In FC3 my gpu usage isn't pegged at 99%, it sticks between 80% and 95% usually.

Ah that makes sense. Will give it a butchers and see how i get on.

I tried BF4 an hour ago and the repeating 10 second cpu spike thing was back again.
