Billysielu - I wouldnt really want to go much higher, unless the gain were exponentionally greater.
I'm getting married in July so cant justify too much of a cost at the moment.

LtMatt - i had a look at the powercolor stuff but was put off by a fair number of bad reviews on a number of different websites.

Powercolor have a good relationship with ocuk, so the RMA process is a quick turnaround. I'd ignore those reviews to be honest. Nothing wrong with the 280X from Powercolor at all.

Top end of budget :

Should you wish to select an Nvidia card :

You haven't specified a maximum budget, so I have tried to keep prices no higher than the examples you linked to. There won't be much performance difference at stock speeds between the 270X & 280, though the 280 will push ahead nicely once overclocked.

To give you an idea of the minimum performance boost you would receive by going from a 6950 to a 270X, here is a rough guide (I've used a 7950 to represent the 270X) :

So that is 2 expeirenced members who have suggested a Power color....
It was actually the power bank one i was looking at when i started to find bad reviews.

your assumption was bang on, i cant really go any higher than the cards i had referenced.

Im not really looking to OC, as its not something ive evered bothered with before so maybe the cheaper one (270x) might be a better option? Although the price difference is nothing atm.....
