My friend just bought this !

Seems mad that the Citroen version of this car can be had for just over £6k brand new, yet a 7 year old Aygo is still worth £3500!

My girlfriend has an 07 Aygo, which we bought privately toward the end of last year. £3500 sounds about right from a dealer.

Pros:

Extremely cheap to run - serviced it myself last weekend with parts costing £30, tyres and other consumables are cheap
£20/yr road tax
Excellent mpg (~60mpg?)
Extremely reliable (C1, 107 and Aygo are the same car and are all one of the most reliable cars on the road)

Cons:

Very basic - you're lucky to have seats and a steeering wheel with air con on some models being about as luxurious as it gets
Damp/leaks is very common with no easy fix
Obviously, power is some what lacking so don't expect to go anywhere fast. Going up hills on motorways can be embarrasing at times.

Whilst that's true, the £6k (today) car is still worth £2.5-3k even when its 6 to 7 years old. The Toyotas command very slightly more than the others but comparable spec to spec you're talking a couple of hundred. In real terms these little cars lose very little money as they age. I could probably get near enough the same back for our 2011 one as I paid for it a year ago, even though it was bought from a main dealer.

As above, cheap and cheerful - girls love them for kicking about town in, borderline fun to drive at its absolute limits yet low speeds, but they can leak, crap clutches in earlynones and the most basic version doesn't even have central locking

I've owned an Aygo. Did over 30k in 18 months. Engine very reliable, servicing cheap and consumables cheap (tyres, breaks, discs etc). Some fun can be had nipping around and it can be chucked around a bit, but don't expect much.

Build quality across the range is very poor, interiors are basic, seats uncomfortable on longer journeys.

If that 07 one hasn't had a clutch already it will need one soon. Ones pre 2009 are renowned for failure, early as well. The Mrs has a 58 plate one and that had a clutch at 27/28k - a baby. On the upside, uprated clutches are cheap (190mm diameter). If you do end up doing one, make sure the whole lot is done - clutch disk, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Will only cause issues later on.

Lost very little money on my Aygo over the time that I had it, not something I would buy again and will be ensuring my Mrs does not buy another. Would happily pay extra for more.

Oh and if you have the air con switched on, you loose a lot of power. Considering it doesn't have much, it can be embarrassing wondering why you're not moving, particularly on faster roads!

Seems pretty expensive for the spec tbh
See a lot of them on the orads tho so they must be popular and they sound cheap to run.
Good history, low mileage and a 13month warranty to boot.
Its very likely not to many people choice or taste but the only thing that matters really is she's happy with it :)

Oh and I'd expect it to be daft cheap on insurance too :)

I'm not convinced by this. My Grandad had a C1 from new, it developed the well known clutch fault then the power steering started to turn off at random times, usually on a roundabout or mid corner.

has anyone ever thought about buying an Aygo/C1 etc. (really small car) and adding in some cheap but effective power mods? Sounds like it could be fun as hell

Seems quite expensive for a basic car like that, other half bought a 56 plate micra "sport" (apparently top of the range?) with 43k miles for 3k about a month or two ago

Sounds like she's happy with her purchase.

I don't see the point in getting involved, particularly if the factors affecting her decision are so vastly different to the rationale you'd apply in the same situation.

Just accept that some people don't apply the same thought process as you would and move on.
