*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

What I am wondering is has anyone just used a USB stick only for storing a game? I know Nintendo say use a powered HDD, but I am still wondering :)

I got my Mario Kart 8 bundle, but I don't have a TV :o I can't even sync the console with the controller, haha.

I could connect it to my monitor, just to sync, but it doesn't have an HDMI port. Is there any reason why a HDMI > DVI adapter won't work? Should I get one?

No but you'll need audio too.

Ordered one. I'll be playing on the gamepad for the time-being until I get a TV :)

Gamepad has it's own sound right?!

Yes - but exactly what sound you get out of the gamepad depends on the game. For example, in Lego City Undercover, you can't play in gamepad-only mode, and the gamepad sound is used for the 'other side' of phone calls. If you only had the gamepad for sound then you would lose most sound effects, voices, background music, etc.

I'm pretty sure that if a game lets you play in gamepad-only mode (like Mario Kart 8) then all sounds will go to the gamepad, so you'll probably be OK for the time being.

ok, thanks :)

I've been using a Verbatim 32gb usb dongle since day one. Never had a problem.

Had a feeling it would work fine. I may do that myself, as my Wii U basic after just downloading a digital game on there (new Super Mario Bros) now has 700mb left. That is plenty for saves/updates, but if I can pick up a digital game on the cheap, I will need to shove a dongle up my wii's backside. Lol.

Thanks for the reply btw :)

I use my Wii U with a monitor, hdmi to dvi cable and plug headphones into the gamepad for sound.

Wii U uses HDMI, so maybe that makes a slight difference to the picture quality compared to the Wii's component cable connection. Other than that, i don't think it up scales Wii games at all. If you choose to play Wii games on the gamepad, that sort of makes games look nicer because of the smaller screen.

I agree. They really wrecked the points system by giving them a use by date. I don't bother registering the codes any more now either.

The PIN codes themselves also expire so don't let them sit around too long.
It's like 3-4 years for the PIN codes though, 2 years for the stars.

Only thing I've redeemed for so far is Mario 3D World soundtrack, hopefully more items are added soon... japan gets cool t-shirts and VC games!.
