****The Official Note III Thread****

Yeah 4.4 (vs 4.3) on all platforms has new audio features that Samsung took advantage of but CM11 is not processing audio the same way Samsung does it and I'm not hearing the full roundedness I used to. Mostly in the mids and highs which don't have that open feeling I would hear in the same music I always listen to.

Which apps? I've tried several and I actually think the cm11 is better. My Note 2 on stock ROM is better than the note 3 on stock ROM. I'm not a fan of Samsung music since upgrading. Preferred app of choice on all my other Samsung phones.

PowerAMP so exact same tone controls in app and I never used Android's built in MusicFX (which enables DSP manager, ViperFX etc) so essentially PowerAMP's internal processor was interfacing with the ROM and sending the audio out whereas now the DSP manager needs to be enabled as well and MusicFX enabled in PowerAMP to get close to the same sound quality back.

I'm trying to get my head around the firmware bases, how do we know which is latest, is NB4 earlier than NC2?

Seems a real bugger downloading full stock roms to update firmware to get a custom rom on, the bases keep changing all the time!!

B is before C in the alphabet.

There are hundreds for the different carriers and countries.
You need to find the right one for you before downloading.

have you tried other apps? Not sure why yours should be different. Dirvers should be essentially the same as its the same OS and hardware. Only difference is DSP. Tried disabling it?

does Note 3 have issues with video + streaming ?

I've always had laggy/stuttering Netflix vs smooth on IOS

yet smooth local 1080p content

I was trying Sky Go earlier in week and was lovely and smooth, tonight I noticed stutter - the difference - tonight was streamed, earlier in week was same/similar content but downloaded first

Not on CM but I only like PowerAmp as every other player isn't logical enough for my liking and the way I play music. CM11 is definitely not as good for music output though, it doesn't have the detail and I'm not sure it's making use of aptX over bluetooth either as I've noticed that my car stereo sounds worse too with less detail in the highs and when pre-amped in dsp manager the detail is restored but it doesn't sound as natural as it used to. It must be a codec thing in the ROM itself. CM does something differently to Samsung.

I'm using Sennheiser IE80 for reference when wired up.

Said sod it and installed CM11 and PA Google Apps full package.

Wow. I forgot just how much nicer Google's stock animations are vs Samsung/HTC/Sony/LG. This is much nicer and the added features are a bonus. I will need to find an Action Note replacement though but other than that I'm going to be on CM from now on.

How's the ROM running?

Thinking of flashing SweetRom unless CM11 is running good

So far so good. I'm missing a few camera features of Samsung's camera app like low light mode and 60fps 1080P video but other than that I like CM11 more because it's more streamlined and there's more customisation without having to install things like Xposed. Also when updating the ROM there's no need for Aroma or worrying about additional apps bundled in needing to be removed again or freezing new additions as usually found with non AOSP based ROMs.

Battery life is better, the media scanner is less harsh on the whole system but because of that apps like Quickpic which uses the Android media scanner to poll folder changes take a bit longer to update and display new images when launched.

I like the camera in other ways as it's quicker to load, take a photo and review it. It's just one seamless process and I like the Google photo app for editing, it has the best features of many 3rd party apps from Snapseed to VSCO Cam and others and is pretty mcuh a fully featured image editing package.

I like the pulldown tray more than any other stock or custom ROM. it's cleaner and better to use. I like that autobrightness levels are fully adjustable, nothing new for a CM based ROM but it's nice to have this feature back.

I've noticed a few bugs here and there. Some apps like WhatsApp crash more often and sometimes randomly forget their notification tones and revert back to System Default.

I find sound quality to be slightly less compared to Samsung ROMs though and bluetooth streaming quality to my aptX amp and car stereos aren't as rich as they are with Samsung ROMs. I guess the bluetooth stack isn't accounting for aptX or something.

A quick google shows that Bluetooth LE and aptX are missing in AOSP but are a part of Stock Samsung firmwares which makes sense given what my ears are telling me. It's not bad but it's not as good as what my ears are used to. I do hope these things make their way to AOSP.

It sounds like it's pretty stable then. I noticed there was something lacking in all CM roms I've tried when it comes to sound vs Samsung roms tbh.

Do you know if the Gear 2 works with this rom? If so I'm going to give it a flash.

Damn I want to go back to SweetROM for the Samsung sound quality and camera features but at the same time I much prefer the simplicity and usefulness of CM.

Also thinking about switching to the G3 :s
