Why would this be the case?.American studies though it won't be the same in the UK
I have a feeling this isn't going to be at all representative of the wider population. Those in a less fortunate situation I'd wager would be less likely (or able) to broadcast about it on-line.[FnG]magnolia;26394590 said:There were a few threads in the Ask/Tell forum over on SA about being an escort; one was in Texas, I think, and the other was in Wellington, New Zealand. Very enlightening views from two very different women who certainly did not conform to the stereotypical view I perhaps had of that profession.
Young, relatively undamaged, obviously intelligent but most of all rational about what they were doing and why. Reading it left you feeling somewhat sorry for their clients rather than for them![]()
I'd argue the propensity for exploitation is key.I think people should be able to do what they want, as long as it isn't harming other people.
So if you want to get ****ed? Have fun, but don't go driving a car or getting in to a fight.
You want to smoke? Fine, but don't second-hand other people.
Recreational drugs your thing? Get your rocks off, but the same considerations as alcohol come in to play.

Besides, it seems one of those professions people seem acceptable for 'other peoples daughters but not mine' which further indicates that perhaps it's not quite as simple as they first think.

Do people feel the same way about gigolos?
Keeping something taboo and underground perpetuates the dangers involved, it happened during the prohibition, and it has been happening for ages for recreational drugs. Not all people who drink are alcoholics, not all people that do drugs are homeless junkies, and not all prostitutes are trafficked.
