TSMC Begins 20nm Volume Production Finally – Next Gen GPUs At This Node Are Now A Possibility

Its about damn time. Volume production at the 20nm Node for the entire Industry has officially begun over at TSMC. Now don’t get me wrong, TSMC has been working on the 20nm node since early February but that work was almost exclusively prioritized for Apple and the creation of its 20nm SoCs. Now they have finally begun full fledged volume production for the rest of the Industry – and that means Nvidia and AMD too.

Woop! looking forward to two second hand 290s for crossfire :)

Unless that is of course that 20nm offers 2x the performance of my 7950s for the price of two second hand cards.

I have a feeling AMD might not be using TSMC 20NM,and might use the GF 28NM process for their next GPU, Tonga, and skip forward to the GF 16NM/14NM process(AFAIK this is a hybrid process node using certain bits which could be classified as 20NM but with Finfets). I could be wrong of course.

So right on time for the 880/70 GM104 variant to hit just before the end of the year.
It will be the 680 saga all over again.

Very surprised that this thread has dropped into obscurity so quickly, obviously because nobody has moaned at AMD or Nvidia for something.

So in that case, AMD are just too RED and Nvidia just too GREEN for some people. :D :p :D

Haha spot on.

On a serious note though.... I hope it isn't here too quick, as I am so broke, I couldn't afford one :D

Spot on. The trouble with 4K is you can't just buy one :( :D

Unless Nvidia bring us the biggest Maxwell straight off the bat, then you could probably get away with just one. But of course I really cannot see that happening. it will be a GM104 ala 680 style, in my opinion

Of course you'd still want two. :p

Unless the next generation of cards bring huge performance boosts, I don't think it's worth upgrading to the GTX-800 series or R9-300 series if one already has multiple Titans/780s/290s. I for one will most likely wait for the GTX-980s before I upgrade, I'm loving SLI and don't think I could go back to a single card any time soon so I'll probably get 2 980s as I'll hopefully have more money by then :D
