The headphone jack is ancient technology. If Apple want to get rid of it, they will do and not listen to outcries from Joe Public. Just as they did with floppy discs and CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays.

I don't know much about Bluetooth but why not just use that for headphones? Or maybe they'll include two lightning ports as the phones are now getting wider.

Things like floppy disc and CD and so on all had something better, something that was able to hold more storage, move things faster etc, and its not super expensive to move between these tech.

On the other hand some people are heavily invested in headphones, and its a very sensitive piece of tech, I think Joe average won't mind so much as most use crappy earpods or beats. But those people that actual care about sound and invest in a good pair of headphones will not be happy. And no one wants a ugly dongle to connect your headphones. Some pieces of tech should not change I think, and the 3.5mm jack is one of them.

It has to have more battery due to the screen size increase, but my point is getting thinner then the iPhone 5/5s is not going to bring any meaningful gain, and they could spend that on even more battery.

Theres seems to be a lot more going on in iOS8, it tracks you a lot more so it can have some apps ready when you need it e.g. when you go into a Starbucks. Huge increase is the amount of sync'ing that is going on with iCloud and so on. Its all going to mean the iPhone 6 as a baseline will need more battery in stand by, and then you add a bigger screen and so on.

I guess will see what happens but I would rather be push towards 2 days battery life, then just bearing making it 1 day.

If this is correct it will not only impact on battery life, but also on Data usage. Both will cause tears...

But surely if you care about sound you want a higher quality connector to go with your higher quality headphones? When I plug my iPod in to my speakers via the 3.5mm jack and then via the digital dock there is a night and day difference in quality. Lightning headphones would be much better.

When connectors change and improve, the movement isn't just sudden - for example we still had floppy drives in PCs long after the CD came along, then DVD drives supported CDs, BRs supported DVDs and so on.

Same with the likes of peripherals. When USB launched it didn't mean PS2 went out the door - both were standard on motherboards for a while.

Same with VGA to DVI, to HDMI, to DP.

My point is - if Apple want to move away from the 3.5mm headphone jack, they need to settle on a new standard and get widespread industry adoption before they do it so that the transition is smooth.

Yeah seems like it, I guess it depends how much you use iCloud.

But then you either need some convertor which would be another £30+ and then you have to always remember to carry it, and connect it. I just don't see that being very neat.

Yes actual this is very true, if its not an open standard then it flops. Imagine having 1 set of headphones for your phone and another for your macbook, or having to switch between which convertor you have for which device. All seems like a huge mess.

I would be happy with that design for the rear and side, just want the bezels around the screen to be slim.

You mean you don't want this bad-boy?

Seriously folks, why do we waste our time reading reviews/gossip for something that is not even out yet?

I mean if they said the iphone 6 had no sockets - i.e wireless headphones and charged wirelessly, 3d screen, could be used as a game controller with a smart tv, could drive our car - its all speculation until the actual device is announced by the company.

I'm getting an iphone 6 when it comes out, I have a 4S and never seen the point of getting a 5/5s, but my battery life is starting to noticably shorten, and the power button doesnt work(I use assistive touch now).

Why not spend your time doing something proactive. Play a game or go out for a run.

folks are always gonna speculate and postulate, if ya don't like seeing or reading such things perhaps the internet aint the place for you :p

I tend to just ignore the speculation because it's almost consistently unrealistic - the only stuff worth paying attention to is post-WWDC when you start seeing real components and bits of the phone leaked by the Chinese blogs.

They should just drop the vertical symmetry, the top bezel is needlessly massive. They need to be real careful because the bigger size just makes it harder and harder to reach the top corners, which is actually fine in Android but iOS uses those corners for back/next etc.!

Given how thin the device is the top bezel is needed too house the camera, and hopefully more battery. I think once you get used too the bigger size it won't be so difficult.
