It's a common phrase I here more frequently "protecting our British culture" etc usually from right wing nut jobs but I want to understand what culture they are defending and what British Culture actually is. From my eyes it's the younger British generations that's are eroding what I would perceive as typical British Culture rather than immigrants.
I mean globally Brits are often portrayed by the stereotype played by Hugh Grant in Four Weddings and a Funeral but clearly we know that isn't the case.
Northern folk have their own culture, southerners their own, and going even farther down south their own. Perhaps some aspects cross boundaries with commonality shared.
You have young peoples culture which seems to be getting drunk at every opportunity beating up homeless people, vomiting and falling out of their clothes at any given time. On the flip side your have your backpacking to an ethnic country for a gap year types. You have older people whose culture is completely different which still has a modicum of respect and honour or some older folks completely different to that.
You have your different social class culture divide. Posh, middle class, working class, chavs all different.
There's a thousand and one cultures throughout the UK depending on who you are and where you are and commonly these different cultures conflict with others.
So what is it? Perhaps I'm failing to understand what these types of people mean by "culture"?
Edit: For me would be
Queuing, that is a must.
Quiet on public transport
Offering seat to elderly / pregnant / disabled
Keeping a stiff upper lip in public
Fish and Chips
Saying bad things about Americans given the opportunity
Saying something to non-English speakers, in English with an accent expecting them to understand because of the accent
