AMD teases new FX desktop chip

16 cores. Each at 6GHz. 600w TDP. AIO quad fan double thick radiator to keep the thing cool. And it still won't provide a challenge to anything in Intel's arsenal.

Inb4 disappointment.

I'd really like it to be something great and I am somewhat excited as to what it is, but I have a feeling people will be left disappointed.
 
My guess is FX9590 sold in retail with the water cooler thrown in at no extra cost, released primarily so that when review sites do benchmarks AMD won't look as **** when compared to 4790K as they would with FX8350 (reviewers only tend to use retail CPU's).

I think next 1.5-2 years we will not see something new and interesting at AMD CPU performance segment (6 or more threads CPU).
 
Probably the brand new FX 9600 now running at 4.8GHz with a 5.1GHz turbo bundled with a AOI water solution!

Seriously though if it's a recycled piledriver who cares, whilst it would be nice for AMD to pull out a 5GHz Steamroller based chip I can't see it happening.

Actually on second thoughts it's probably some kind of mildly overclocked FM2 APU, based on the last OMG FX branded chip is coming scenario, which turned out to be a mobile APU.
