**Gigabyte Gaming Z97 board discussion thread**

Currently trying to decide if its worth going for the Gaming 7 over the 5. Looking on Gigabytes site there doesn't"t appear to be a great difference between the two other than two extra sata sockets and some onboard switches for the 7.

Those of you who have bought the Gaming 7, what made you choose it over the 5?

I'm going to be putting a 4790k in the board and hopefully clocking the chip to 4.8ghz under water.

Also how would the onboard sound on these boards compare to my X-Fi extreme music?

The gaming 7 was being sold with a free kit of decent RAM but that offer has now expired, that could be why they picked the 7 over the 5.

I personally went for the Gaming 7 due to the free memory offer at the time, if you're not going to use any of the extra features on the Gaming 7 (most notable being extra SATA ports, onboard buttons etc.) then you might as well save a bit of money and go for the Gaming 5. From what I can see they both use the same power delivery system. As for how the onboard would compare to your sound card, I'd imagine it'll be on par if not better as your card is fairly old (released around 2005/6 iirc?).

Yeah if the free ram offer was still on I'd definatey go with the 7. Unfortunately I seem to have just missed out on it so looks like i'll be going with the Gaming 5.

Not sure how old my X-fi is, just know that I've had it years now so its probably worth giving the onboard sound a try first.

i found a review with some info about the 4 phase power on the gigabyte GA-Z97MX i'm not sure if this info means the MB is good for OC,if you know what it means then please tell me. thanks

here is the quote which i used google to translate:

Heatsink design is quite attractive, with a great shape and sturdy enough to cover two sides of the CPU VRM area or rather cool mosfet heatsink located behind it. The design phase is to use 4-phase power with a capacity of 30A each, so the total available 120A which will provide power supply to the processor. Even though it looks minimalist, but the actual figure is already a capacity more than enough, especially considering the motherboard is designed for gamers who are more concerned with stability and durability and features to support the features of the game being played.

It's good for an average overclock that most 4770/4790K get, nothing to extreme.

Got my new Gaming 7 board the other day and managed to get it all installed today along with my two new 290x's.:D

I have done a fresh install of Windows but I am unable to connect to the internet during the install. When I get to the part where I sign into my Microsoft account I cant so I have to create a local account.

Is there a way around this in order to the get the Killer LAN working during install?

The only reason its bothering me is because once I create the local account and then delete it after I am connected to internet it is creating my user folder with 3 x 000's on the end and its very annoying.

it gives you an option to load any pre install drivers I think,im a bit hazy though its been a while since I did clean install

pretty sure you can sign in your account also without the net

I just install 8.1 and it asks after installing if I want a new account or log into my Microsoft one I always use.

It asks for the last four digit of my phone number and sends a verification code.

I type it in and it checks it.

Next thing I'm at the desktop with a working connection.

I can only assume you have a older windows installation that doesn't have a suitable generic driver.
