Google I/O 2014 - 25/26 June

New soft buttons look awful!!! I love my current ones from the Nur theme.
Multi tasking looks good though! I bloody missed the keynote catching up on it now.

Yeah all very original........ animations on an Android phone **shudder**

Android is so stale now - fair enough its not a premium OS so expectations should be lower but compared to the iOS 8 reveal this is nothing.

Lol go away, iOS 8 main feature : YOU CAN EDIT YOUR PICS WITHIN THE PICS APP.

Yeah nice one apple.

Ohhh nice we get a taste tomorrow that's good! Be making a nandroid tomorrow then possibly multi boot to try it out.. Feels so nice saying that, multi boot, who ever though you could multi boot OS's on a mobile device? Huh n111ck?

I do think the large screen iPhone and iOS 8 will end up tempting back a lot of the users who left due to wanting a bigger screen than the iPhone was offering, but we'll see!

I think this could go both ways, people are generally lazy, they left iOS for a bigger experience, now they have that bigger experience. It can be argued that for most normal people the experience on Android and on iOS is comparable, it has Facbebook and messaging apps. I think a lot of nerds who like Apple but left for a bigger screen will 100% go back, but I'm not sure all normal people will. Most of my normal friends are pretty happy with the S4/S5 and don't want to go back to apple even if there is a bigger device.

It will be interesting to see what happens off course.

DAMMIT i missed it :(

damm work!

Anyways what did i miss? did they reveal new android OS and new tablet/other hardware devices?

They gave us a massive preview of the Android L release (no name yet, most people believe it will be 'Lollipop'), complete with a massive overhaul of the look of Android. I assume this will be Android 5.0 from the language being used, they frequently said it was going to be the most significant Android update ever.

They revealed "Project Velta" in the same vain as the other projects this one is aimed at significantly improving battery life, sounded really good.

ART will be standard, they say after optimisations it will double Android's performance for free and is built to fully utilise 64bit CPU cores.

GoogleWear was on show, still looks amazing. Some of the devices released today, however the important one the Moto360 sometime this summer.

Also android tv and android auto which are aimed at bringing android to the car and living room.

I think one of the more significant announcements was that ChromeOS and therefore all ChromeOS laptops will get access to a full range of Android apps, effectively bringing it much closer to a full featured OS.

^^ Your post had me in stitches kona. Nice one lol :D

Yep I can't wait to see the new iteration of Android, it sure does look great.

I'm excited. Is it 5 or 4.5? I'm guessing 5 as it is quite major.

When will it be available on our handsets? September?

5, I think.

Nexus devices (well, only 5 + 2013 7) will get a "beta" style version very soon, but other devices will come later.

All depends how quickly other manufacturers get the update out.

i wonder if we will finally be able to have the battery in the notification bar as a percentage number out of box, and also if they will sort the quick settings buttons to make sense. i'm very doubtful
