People have life too easy these days, bring back National Service imo and include in that a 6 month tour of duty in whatever warzone we are involved in.

My Dad and some Uncles did National Service back in the 50s and they reckon the chavs of their day came back even worse than when they went in so can you imagine what modern day scum would be like?
Bad idea if you think they can be changed.

Not this **** again

Move on, times change etc etc. the military create some of the most ill adjusted people who can't cope with civilian life

exactly look at Castiel ! Imagine 1000's of him arguing with himself ! :p

I think National Service isn't a bad idea, but I don't think that it has to be purely military service. Some kind of public service to instill a sense of national pride, social responsibility etc wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Of course, I only say that because I'm too old for it. :D

I'd have hoped some army style discipline would have been good for them. :(

It's a bad idea sending people who don't want to be there and ill prepared to the front line.

Not sure how to read that, as in we are a burden to normal civilians?
Sorry if I'm reading it wrong, just so you know, they also create some of the most caring, hard working, bravest people i know, both in their military and civilian lives.

I did recruitment in Catterick, i saw plenty of "lost" kids who thought they were the bee's knee's, they'd done it all, but all those that made it through training had changed for the better.

Sure i don't think it works for everyone, you can't fix them all, but for the most part, i feel military life changed them from kids to decent soldiers and hopefully in later life, civilians.

I voluntary joined the R.A.F. when I was 25. Did seven years service, travelled all over the place, took part in the Gulf War in 2003 while based at Cyprus, met and worked with loads of different people. I found it a positive experience and I know I came out a more rounded person because of it. So personally I would be in favour of National Service.

I don't agree with it really. We have enough prats that enjoy starting fights for no reason I'd prefer if they weren't trained to be more efficient :D

Besides surely people with such limited experience and maybe not wanting to be involved would just benefit the people who make body bags.

Public service should be compulsory if you have claimed dole for 2 years or more. 1 year if your a 18-24.

Plenty of places need tidying up, while your sat at home watching sky.

You have a very obtuse view of service personnel. Presumably you're basing this on a minority of Army grunts who start fights in pubs. I can assure you, in my time in the R.A.F. the vast majority of people were very professional and intelligent people. There are always a few bad apples but you shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush. I'm proud of the service I gave my country and find it quite annoying when people like you just throw out ignorant generalisations on a whim. Tell me, what have you done for your country ?

O no I didn't mean the fighting forces. I meant chavs doing national service.

I've never met a forces member I didn't get along with. I think they're massively undervalued and underpaid.

Sorry apparently I forgot to quote dimples chav post :(
