I've finally decided to ditch the 4 year old Blackberry Curve 8520 (about time!)

I already have an o2 SIM, which I use for PAYG, and will be keeping the SIM so I have the same number.

I sort of like the look of the Nokia Lumia range, but I'm not brand loyal, at all.

Is it possible to get a decent phone for £100?

the Moto G does look like a better phone than the comparably prices Lumias. Am I correct in assuming that Android is a better OS than WP 8.1?

It's a mixture of personal preference and ecosystem. Android has a superior app ecosystem.

In your shoes I'd be picking up a Lumia 630 for £99 on O2 PAYG and sticking your sim in (or transferring your number to the new sim).

'Better' is always subjective, Android will offer a more open platform with a greater app selection but WP 8.1 offers a more coherent user experience and the Here apps from Nokia, Maps and Drive especially are great offering excellent mapping and sat nav with full offline maps.

I tried to go back to Android from WP8 (Lumia 920 -> Nexus 5) but just couldn't get on with it which I found really surprising as I used to be a huge Android fan but I know a lot of people who are really happy with their Android phones.

Frankly coming from a 4 year old Blackberry you will be very happy with either handset and it's pretty amazing how good the £100 handsets are these days.

OS aside I think the Moto G is the better device, it lacks an SD card but you get a much better display 720p vs 480p which is 2014 is just bad, 1GB of ram vs 512mb which will hold the OS back e.g. still have constant resuming instead of smooth multi tasking in WP8.1. The Moto G also has a front facing camera which the Lumia 630 doesn't.

Comparing the too and knowing there both the same price the Moto G really offers better hardware. Those hardware difference I think will make the difference in enjoy each respective OS.

Both Moto G and Any of the Sub £100 Lumia's are viable. Both are great OS'es. WP's downfall is the lacking app support :(

My preference is the Moto G.

I saw the Nokia 625 for £80 recently. Price reduction because of the new models I think.

Good points:
4G
Big screen
Can fit an SD card
Here Drive is a great satnav app

Bad points
Well reviewers criticise the low screen resolution and ppi, but I've had mine for 6 months now I think, and it just isn't an issue.

My other phone is a Moto G, good also but I use the Lumia most of the time for the bigger screen and slightly better speeds sometimes with 4G.

Personally if I was buying a budget phone I would go Wp, I am a avid Android user but just find on the cheaper models they just not as smooth.

Have you tried the MotoG? It's as smooth or more smooth (I'm looking at you Samsung) then some of the top end phones on the market. Your comment would have been valid before the MotoG, not anymore.

Is the Moto G available for £100 now? In my head I was comparing it with the Moto E (RRP £100) which also has microSD card, no front camera and a marginally better res screen 540 x 960 vs. 480 x 854 but a worse camera.

The Moto G 4G does offer micro SD but costs £150, if the OP is happy to spend the extra I could certainly see the appeal but the lack of microSD on the standard Moto G would be a deal breaker for me as 8GB (5.5GB available) would be easily filled by a couple of apps before I begin to load any music.
