After having long good think about what has been said on here over passed week, about 5.1 vs stereo, sound quality vs positional que
Am looking to give a high quality headset ago, and once and for all give my honest point on what I really believe to be better.

Now I have never owned a headset that's cost more than 70 pounds. I fully understand that a high priced headset will sound much better than my roccat Kave 5.1 but the thing I doubt they do better is positional audio.

So budget let's start at £200 my sound card is Asus Xonar d2x and I would like to really not change. Main reason I use DTS connect with my home cinema system.

So hopefully I'll get to the bottom of this sound quality vs positional audio.

Thanks

Yeah all can be had for under £200. ** competitor naming and price removed ** If you need a mic get a little Modmic. These headphones will open your eyes to a whole new world of positional accuracy and soundstage.

you want a headset for gaming get a Sennhieser brilliant the 350se upwards all cracking
You want a set of headphones then get the AKG 550 or the sennhieser momentums

Yeah this mainly for gaming, with some music now and then. Only listen to pink Floyd.
WWill d2x get the most out these type headsets?

you need to decide if you want a headset or headphones. Now there will be a great debate on what people say that headphones are better than headsets. But there is no reason why you cant get a headset if you game and chat cause although i listen to music i need to have a mic as i game a lot and sometimes i dont wear a top! yeah thats right! and im not clipping a mic on to my nipples......
And yeah it will bud, i got a xonar usb 3 thing its cheap but its 50 times better than on board so you will be cool.

Ive got the 350Se http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-071-SN&groupid=702&catid=1058

I've tried searching for bad reviews but never find any. And as for the cons some people say that it doesnt have USB! well thats a bonus for me.

Its all personal choice bud.

I think stereo is the way forward now also. At first you will have to let your ears and brain figure out the sound stage. Its not as easy as a true 5.1 set at first, but you will get used to it and does sound better and more immersive.

Virtual surround is no longer a echoey mess and has improved a lot it seems. Here's an example I used to test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NirHR5l9AU

More importantly in future there will be tech like headphone:X which I'm really looking forward to (hope its used in games). This is what done it for me. There's a Headfi member who also created his own Virtual surround drivers which is was really impressive, so when you get your new cans try it out. https://fongaudio.com/demo/

As far as I'm aware you'll need a set with a large sound stage with good spatial depth to get the best out of virtual surround. I have a little list of phones looking to buy also and would like to see what others recommended in this thread.

Oh and yes, positional cues will be better using stereo (360 degree depth). Even I couldn't believe it at first. Using with my small sound stage phones. Decent larger stage phones must sound amazing.

Thanks mate will give that ago. If I don't like the stereo I'll just sell them on.

The AD700's are 32ohm so a sound card should drive them fine.

As said above you will need to give it time for your ears to adjust, not many people like changing what's already good for them but sometimes it's for the best :)

The AD700's are discontinued and have been replaced with the AD700X which is 48 ohms.

For a HUGE list of headphones reviewed for gaming see the following...

http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad...guide-update-7-9-2014-ultrasone-hfi-15g-added

He marks them for fun, competitive and comfort. Fun is for general gaming and listening to music, competitive is for positional audio and comfort speaks for itself.

He also marks the DT990 a lot higher than the DT770 which makes sense it's an open backed phone (bigger sound stage) as opposed to the closed back 770

You are not going to get better than the K702 that I can promise you. They may not have the bass depth and impact but they do what so many headphones fail to do..create an and airy open space where you can hear everything. AKG are the only company that seem to get this right.

there is a sticky which has a HUGE list of headphones within it as well as links to reviews, etc.

all the info you need is in said sticky

Am not interested in reading them. Am more interested in reading user options from here reason for my thread. If I wanted info from headfi I would just made thread over there.
Thanks anyway
