OK spec me

Am not interested in reading them. Am more interested in reading user options from here reason for my thread. If I wanted info from headfi I would just made thread over there.

Not being funny here but that list is made from user opinions so it would be daft to ignore it.

For 150-200 range I'd pick between K701/K702/Q701 if your main focus is gaming with only a little music.

Every headphone benefits from an amp even low impedance ones, I'll let the more knowledgeable audio folk give their opinion on it though.

Thanks anyway

So in other words you're too lazy to look for yourself and want us to do it for you

No in other words, people here from other thread think stereo is better. So am here asking you to give me your options on the sets you guys own. So then I can pick from the selection. :p

People say the creative cards are better for gaming anyway, not sure if there's any truth behind it though. It is a good soundcard but the thing is if you don't like the stereo setup you might of wasted £120 unless you DSR it.

I see a lot people recommend ad700, will d2x get the best out of these?

Plugging them into a potato will get the best out of them. Really easy to drive! Be warned that the AD700 is missing it's bottom end and I don't mean it's lacking it's literally rolled off way too early so all the frequencies in the lows are missing. You get a good sense of air, the treble and mids are pushed forward making footsteps and other sounds you find in the mid-high frequencies stand out.

It's not a complete headphone and if you want the absolute best for you money you need to be looking at a phone that can preform in all areas.

keep the D2X and get a headphone amp would be cheaper

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-002-EA&groupid=701&catid=1925 Or something similar.

it's £40 cheaper than the D2X and will definitely continue to allow you to use the D2X for what you need it for.

Shame you missed out on my STX sale last week :P

Thanks guys I now think I should change sound card to the Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD

Think this will offer the best of both worlds for me plus adding extra like THX and EAX 5.0
Just can not for life me pick a headset or headphone. They so much to pick from.

The only way you will get closer to picking a headphone is to list what you are looking for in a headphone.

Do your want a warm sound or a colder sound

Is bass important?

Uses?

If you can tell people want you want then people can start highlighting phones that match your requirements.

I like bass, one thing these Kave have a lot off and its nice so yeah Bass.

Gaming and music, Music I listen to is Rock like Pink Floyd etc
Gaming I play all types games but mostly shooters
I would say Warmer sound, open or closed I have no idea
These Kaves are open have a opening on the sides, believe open vs closes effects not just so you can hear outside but also sound stage and bass?

That rules out the K701/702 then.

If you can get yourself some Q701s and get yourself some Annie or 712 pads from AKG spare parts then you will have a phone that can do it all.

If not the Q701 on it's own is around neutral on the bass so if the material has bass it won't accentuate it but play close to what was recorded.

The K612 pro which is a lot cheaper is a better balanced headphone but lacks the sense of space and atmosphere the Q's present. In return you get a warmer, fuller and bassier sound which has a good stage but not great.

With headphones there's trade offs. Warmer fully phones tend to lack the open airy soundstage of of a headphone that is thinner and less warm.

The only way to get in the middle is go for something like the 65th Annie or Q701 with Annie pads that add that sense of space but still compared to the Q701 stock they still lack the sense of air.

DT770 is an excellent phone, it lacks air but has great bass, warm with amazing accuracy for positional audio and has a very large soundstage. The trade off is openness due to them being completely sealed.

A900x does what the 770 do with less body so you can hear details a little easier..less soundstage width but more air due to the thinner notes.

These all meet your requirements it just depends what you can afford to loose out on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your input

So I now look into DT770, A900x, Q701 How does the Sennheiser G4ME ZERO Premium compare to these?
Would I be disappointed going with a set from Sennheiser? I just keep seeing there sets pop up all over place.

How does it compare? It doesn't I'm afraid. Sennheiser make a couple of good headphones sadly they are over your budget. If you've never heard a good set of headphones you probably won't be disappointed as you won't have heard anything to compare them too but they certainly are not good for the money.

G4ME ZERO's are far too expensive for what they are, basically PC350's or 518's with gaming marketing slapped everywhere.
