THE ULTIMATE IS COMING - NVIDIA

as exemple of their politic is the marketing for this shield 2, so instead of making the price 400-500$, they make it 300-400$ then tell you, you can buy these other things, knowing very well it's a must have, that should be included, and to me that's expensive, you might not bother you, me it does.

So to clarify, you'd prefer to pay $4-500 to get the "complete" package vs Nvidias structure to pay $300-400 for the device and the accessories separate (which combined equal the same price).

Regardless the end result is the same so that logic is a little odd to me, then add onto that the controller isn't required and instead they're throwing it out there as an option rather than forcing you to buy it. You may already have a controller (or don't care for the games/apps that would need it) so it isn't going to cost you more for hardware you don't want/need.

Please explain how this is bad

If you compare the background pic of the grill to the new shield tablet pic floating around, it's quite obviously the shield tablet.

Wonder what the price tag will be

The K1 has the Kepler GPU, so it should pack a punch compared to other mobile GPUs on the market. If this tablet can interest more manufacturers to use the Tegra SoC it may get them back into the mobile space (Tegra 3 was a mess).
Early benchmark and specs suggest it’s not going to pack a punch. It’s looking to be one of the slower new generation GPU’s. Which is why I don’t get why people are saying its interesting or amazing. Kepler is nothing special so far.

Going by the low specs, bad power drain with poor battery life I don’t see how it’s going to gain mass market.

The next gen PowerVR GPU’s should much faster than K1 with the PowerVR Series 6XT being double to triple the speed if not faster. All that with twice as long battery life and no throttling.

The current year old Ipad with metal API is already better than the Tegra K1 so the next gen GPU with metal should have graphics K1 cannot even dream off.

I just do not see anything amazing or stand out about the K1. I don’t see how it’s going to gain market share. K1 looks ok against last gen GPUs but once you compare it against new gen GPU’s that’s it’s going to be up against its not that impressive. I do not see K1 getting in many products or more then 1% market share.

Can they run my current Steam/Origin games then?

Technically, they can do what Shield does because of a program called limelight (Which is only because of Shield).
I don't think Shield can do origin?

And it's not technically them which can, it's your PC it's just getting streamed.

Steam could release a client for the streaming too make it work on like everything :p

Mine are genuine questions, as I have no idea what can work in what with these SoCs. I have a Samsung Tab 2 that I use at work for films and does a good job but anything else is new to me.

So does it use my PCs power to game as well or would someone explain to me in a dummies guide please?

Apps like Splashtop and the others mentioned stream your PC desktop to your phone or tablet. So yes you are using our PC power like shield. Its basically just a remote desktop to your tablet from a PC. You can access all your home files, see the same home desktop and use/play any app installed on the PC.

Tiz true, nothing really special about Shield in that regard, any Tablet / Phone will do a Shield with various 3'rd party apps.

Shield as a concept is of little interest to me as its nothing new, but an Nvidia Tablet as a proper Nvidia Tablet with Nvidia hardware inside.... Yes please.

Or AMD, I don't care which they are as good as each-other in the low power SoC market.

Just tried running Limelight via my HTC One and very hit and miss. I could see my games list but when I tried to start a game, it just dropped out. It seems that this needs to be done on a wireless network but from my understanding, Shield now works from anywhere that has an internet connection and doesn't need to be wireless.

Possible a silly question, but when are these Next gen mobile GPU's that have been mentioned going to be available to buy?

If it is guaranteed to be very soon then maybe you have a point, but if it is going to be sometime latter in the year, then you would have just as much luck arguing that the Titan black is crap due to the AMD 390X that will arrive eventually.

Of course, pretty much all tablets have been able to do that for years with the correct app. Shield was just copying the early apps.

Anyone who's been streaming to Android for the past years have been putting up with sub-par performance.
I've been using Steam In Home Streaming extensively, and it's only Shield (Limelight too) which can compare when using Android.

My shield does origin fine

Sweet, I had no idea if it streamed Origin natively (If it's third party it's not a Shield plus)

I'm not quite following :p?

My Samsung Tab 2 is at work, so I thought I would put Limelight (streaming app) on my phone (HTC One). I eventually got it to work but it couldn't keep up with even the lowest settings and became a stutter fest on the phone.

I also believe that Limelight needs a wireless connection and will not work with mobile data (I tether as I have unlimited data on 3 network), so even if I put it on my Tab at work, it will not work because it isn't running on wireless and is using the mobile data. From my understanding and everyone is welcome to correct me but Shield will allow any type of connection to work.

Maybe I am missing something also?
