Girl banned from school's restaurant treat for taking one day off - to attend MUM'S funeral

I'm afraid I'll have to change into my angry trousers

You still only get a few days notice with an "announced" inspection.

Still more than enough to 'prepare' everyone for it. A colleague of mine's wife is a teaching assistant and they put in a lot of measure to make sure the inspections go well (and therefore are not representative at all).

Yay punish everyone because someone didn't have 100%:attendance and so didn't get to go on the 100% attendance trip.

It was a reward for prioritising school, for trying to not get ill, or playing truant. It was a bonus for those folk who turned up every day and made the teachers lives possibly easier because it meant they didn't have to tutor that kid differently or have to play catch up.

In the working world you can be punished for that day off, sick pay or accrual of sick days etc.

These kids need to learn the real world. What do you want? Prizes for everyone? Hippies!

Gotta make sure those primary school children know not to mess around, one second you let them have one day off to attend a funeral, the next they're 25 years old and working in your office stealing reams of copier paper.

Even if they do apologise the damage is already done.

I like how the solution to the media attention was to just punish EVERYONE. :p

Maybe because 'the internet' loves to jump all over things without having the full picture. I'm sure the school made a mistake, mistakes happen. We don't have all the details as to why 'common sense' failed on this occasion.

There's already a huge number of legal issues with arranging school trips, so it doesn't take much of a negative reaction to make the risks outweigh the benefits.

which is more than enough time. in the college the teacher who routinely turned up for the first 5 minuets then left all year taught one full lesson on thew day he knew he was being inspected.

terrible teacher taught us 2 out of 14 units meaning a replacement teacher had to teach us the remaining 12 units in the last 2 weeks of the course in a set of emergency 4 hour long lessons.

hed been the same way for years, and had had dozens of complaints to the college about him, oddly though he was the union rep so maybe thats why nothing ever happened.

finally after the everyone got ****ed off that we were having to cram a years worth of lessons into two weeks he got reported directly to our company instead of the college.

surprisingly now it was out of their hands he got the boot within a month.

The way ofsted is currently the decision is mostly made before they even turn up at school. What matters is the data, if the data is poor you are going to get a poor ofsted regardless of how lovely the school is on the day of the inspection.

Spoken like a true Tory (I don't know if you are :p)

If you are ill, you should have tried harder to stay healthy. What, you can't afford private healthcare? Ah well there's your problem! Not trying hard enough! What, you can't afford it? Well you're not trying hard enough to get rich like us! Therefore you get nothing! No school party! You lose, sir!

Also I'm pretty sure your post was a joke, but just in case...

no amount of money will help for the usual sickday reasons as they're viral...

tbf as a kid probably the best way to avoid getting ill is to avoid going to school :o

Well back in my (our?) day we frequently did take days of school. If it was a really nice day we'd just up and go to the beach. It wasn't frequent by any means, but we never got in trouble for it. Probably a couple times a year, give or take.

Sounds like these days the state believes all children belong to them. Parents are merely custodians and must obey the state's will above all else.
