Spec me a sports car..

Hi there

I've driven a huge amount of cars and though a 911 is not necessarily the absolute quickest A-B car or in a straight line I have never driven a car more rewarding to drive, not EVER. I've driven and owned M3's, Caymans, Boxsters, GTR's, GTO's, Mustangs, Corvettes, Z4M's, Clios, Focus RS, Megane, EVO's, Imprezas etc.

For me though all the above are amazing to drive as well, the 911 Eclipses them all, the only car I drove which was a match for it was a Ferrari 360 CS F1, which gave the same kind of thrills but sounded even better, but Ferrari 360's are not 20k. ;)

Here are some 997's within your price range:-

Looks like a nice cheap basic spec car, be sure to try and get 1yr full warranty out of them and be aware of potential issues and running cost.

I'd probably buy this however

It has some nice options, aero kit, PSE, manual and looks clean. Get it 111-point inspected and then a boroscope inspection, if all clear buy it and fit the X51 radiator kit ahd Hartech low temp sensor. :)

The 911 is the true drivers option, sensational both road and track, but can be a little to hardcore for some and they are older.

The other option I'd be considering would be an E92 M3, the V8 version, easily obtainable for 20k for a 2009 one and you can still get a BMW warranty with it!!!!!
The BMW is faster than the 911 in a straight line, 9s 0-100mph versus about 10s and the BMW is the better all round car, its comfier, more creature comforts inside, V8 always wins and they cost less to run than a 911 and are still a great handling car and work well both road and track, the dis-advantage is its not as raw as a 911 or as lightweight. :)

A stretch for sure, but that there is gen2, so pretty much bullit proof, but I am a 911 fanboy, just prefer the way a 911 drives, it is so addictive and challenging, which keeps me coming back for more. :)

I 100% agree, but after running both a Gen 1 and Gen 2 911 I just dont think I could live with a Gen 1 car again. If nothing else its the potential lack of reliability that puts me off a Gen 1 car.

My old Gen 1 had around £22k worth of work done to it in under 18 months.

I am on the look out for a 991 now but can not find a good S under £60k

The 997.1 is more delicate for sure, but in return it sounds nicer and has a rawer edge for sure. But the 997.2 engine is better, just sounds not as nice.

If you're gonna do something at least do it right.

I wouldn't want to spend 30k on something like an Aston. I'd much prefer to save more and spend at least 60/65k on something like that.

You can actually get a reasonable v8 vantage for around that money. 35-40 is what you should have in mind for one of those though.
