Broadwell was supposed to come in 2014 and it will ship in the last quarter of this year for detachable thin notebooks.

Desktop parts are coming after Haswell refresh and you can expect them in Q2 2015. They are called Broadwell LGA 14nm and one great thing about them is that they will continue to use the same LGA 1150 socket.

Broadwell LGA 14nm with eDRAM Iris Pro GPU Some of the key features include Intel iris Pro graphics that is supposed to be the first desktop LGA Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) that will include DRAM. This memory can significantly increase the memory bandwidth of Iris Pro graphics.

Interesting read, least it leaves an upgrade path for those who went Z97. I highly suspect that Z87 wont be included this time. Hence ill probably stick with what i have until skylake rears it's head. X99 looks tempting, but cost will be astronomical.

Will be interesting to see if they go with the cheap paste option again on broadwell. Read on here that supposedly on haswell intel had issues with solder cracking under load/heat.

haswell-e are soldered though and they have 6/8 cores

idk why they do it other than for profit

same for k series cpu's why bother? just have them all unlocked

Yep, and ibe is the same 22nm as haswell. The article i read stated that the problem was with solder on this die size. Personally i think it is a cost cutting exercise.

only z97 will support broadwell

While I don't 100% expect Z87 to support Broadwell, I wouldn't pay any attention to anything till launch, and I wouldn't be too surprised if Z87 ultimately did end up supporting Broadwell.

Many places reported for months that DC was Z97 only.

What about Broadwell for the X99 platform?

This platform is supposed to be getting a 14nm Broadwell-E series of processors thought I have absolutely no idea now when this platform will be getting them.

Broadwell LGA supports PCIe Gen 3, DDR3 and DDR3L 1.5V, Digital display and uses DMI and Intel FDI to communicate with Intel 9-series chipsets. After Haswell refresh that didn't get that many desktop enthusiasts excited, it looks like Q2 2015 will be much more fun for overclockers and gamers.

oh great, this'll fit my new modo ;)......

The Broadwell chip will also support the new DDR4 memory. Core chips based on the current Haswell architecture support DDR3 memory, but DDR4 is more power efficient and has faster throughput, which could translate to more responsive gaming PCs.

The chip will be made using the 14-nanometer process, which will provide a speed boost and more power efficiency.

The eight-core Broadwell Extreme Edition chip will have a limited audience, but it's a group of users who are willing to pay "top dollar for top performance," said Nathan Brookwood , principal analyst at Insight 64.

Gamers are one of the few users who still care about CPU count and bandwidth, Brookwood said. With more powerful CPU and graphics cores, DDR4 adds up all the dots to boost system speed, Brookwood said.

ok it's a proper gaming CPU...........but .BEWARE because it looks expensive

you don't know till we see results

same goes for how much voltage you can put through them

die shrink usually means better temps/clocking

Asus may say differently towards the launch of Broadwell and compatibility with z87 boards ;)

Could be in for another socket 775 generation again.

ive heard it from a good source that it will be z97 only

but there's nothing stopping board manufacturers from tweaking bios's to get it to work I suppose

LOL Haswell-E isn't even out yet so its a Loooong way off.

I have to say, having had a play with a prototype NUC with IrisPro I was very impressed with what it can do for an integrated GPU Core and if adding DRAM makes it better then it will be even better.

We'll see, I won't be surprised either way, but I am hoping Z87 sees Broadwell (Logically, having Broadwell not work on Z87 goes against the grain of the last few years worth)

If it's a definite promise that Broadwell will drop into a Z97, that does rather make a Devil's Canyon build more tempting for the next 6-9 months...

But do we quite trust them not to suddenly change their minds and launch Z107 nearer the time? :P

40% more performance than a top end Haswell with great overclocking...... sounds too good to be true doesn't it........... that is a massive performance increase ............
