Afternoon chaps,

It's been a few years since I last built a PC but i've decided that I can't resist the lure of 4k gaming any longer! I have a budget of around 2k but I'm a tad confused as to which way to go with the hardware, i need everything but a case as I already have a decent one :s

Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated

Cheers,
Ben

Imho don't go 4k yet. As many will tell you it's still in it's infancy and there are many flaws to iron out. Are you sure you want to go for it? You may be disappointed

Fair point and I guess that should have been part of my question... is 2k a decent enough budget for reliable 4k gaming at the moment or should I hold fire for a while?

The 34" LG is 1440p as well, widescreen is an absolute must!!
16:10 is just not as good anymore, at all for me.

If you'd of said that a year or 6 months ago i would have called you insane..

But now, you're 100% correct. a lot of games support and fit that aspect ratio and its a stunning buy, especially if you one of those people thinking about eyefinity.

Near enough 4k but without the demands.

Its still quite demanding no? & has anybody actually tested which games support this res and which dont

Watchdogs. Very demanding game (or not well optimized, especially for Radeon) and just a single 280X.

TitanFall. Again single 280X.

I reckon 2 x 280X or even 2 x 280 would be more than good enough. And even with one it's quite playable as the vids show.

Its will be less demanding, from my (very) rough resolution calculation there are 60% less pixels between the 1440p 34" superwide than a 4k monitor which means you can EASILY run one with a single GPU.

The reason why it its better than 4k is it gives a better in-depth experience rather than just a good picture.. 4k isn't very well optimised for gaming yet (that may be vice versa but the outcome is still the same)..

Not a very scientic review but check this video out, He sums it up pretty well.

If your a bit put off by the price of the 1440p flatron (£800) the 1080p version is still a very good shout:

YOUR BASKET
1 x LG Flatron 34UM65-P 34" WideScreen Super-Wide LED Monitor £499.99
Total : £509.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

My friend Mr Snips has bought one recently (two days ago) so he may be able to fill you in.. :)
