Stuttering/Hitching in almost every game.

Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I'm getting to the end of my tether with this weeklong battle with every game on my pc, every game seemingly has this annoying stutter on turning, randomly hitching, entering rooms. Doesnt matter the scenario every now and then i get a random big fps drop in any game, Aliens, Skyrim, Far Cry, Hitman, i can go on.

I will watch my fps on the side, it'll be fluctuating as normal, but sometimes it rapidly jumps down from say, 120 to 80-90, then wind itself up or down and feel normal again, when it does this it feels like the games pausing real quick, hitching and it drives me up the bend.

It doesnt matter if i VSYNC, vsync to Half my refresh rate (120) doesnt matter if i lock the fps at 60, when i lock it at 60 it tends to hitch to what fraps tells me 59 and thats when the hitching occurs. Sometimes it happens on mouse turn, sometimes it happens on walking.

I've tried Defragging, turning off Hyper Threading, reinstalling drivers, trying hotfixes (aka, games like bioshock infinite and aliens i made the poolsize 1300 instead of its default, really helped bioshock to the point of fixing, heck i remember when i completed bioshock it completely worked fine and this was even before this fix) i've tried everything in my power, using different usb slots for mouse, using different sound card drivers, reinstalling them, everything.

I can note, i dont know if i ever not noticed this before, but i started noticing this problem when i cleaned out the isnide of my pc, i.e opened up the case and got the dust out, i didnt damage anything (i am sure of it, all i did was blow dust out gently with canned air) and ive reopened it since and reinstalled every single part, even replacing the cpu heatsink and thermal paste (which definately helped decrease temps but certainly not this problem)

I dont want to do a fresh reinstall of windows, because in all honesty i dont have the time to reinstall all these games, hotfixes, drivers and stuff that i have because i dont have an ext hardrive.

Any help would be highly appreciated, i cant game anymore, its ruined my experience so much these past 3-4 weeks that i'm contemplating just giving up at times.

My rig is as follows.

Nvidia 680 Power Edition (stock settings)
I7 2600 @ 3.4ghz (stock settings)
8gb Samsung Green RAM (stock settings)

Have you checked your HDD cables?

I had a similar problem a few years ago, took me months to get to the bottom of it, not even a format/fresh install fixed it. Then I found the issue when I was doing a HDD upgrade - one of the connectors on the sata cable had broken slightly, and there must have been an intermittent connection - as soon as I replaced the cable, PC was back to normal.

I'll give it a go, no idea what the problem is

Also id liek to note, i dont get spieks in CPU usage when this happens, and i dont think its cpu or gpu related as they show no signs of fault.

I felt it helped a little bit, but the cables werent very loose.

I wanna take note that when i play games i turn off everything unnecessary, skype, mumble, internet all the things.

I'm currenly running the computer open case now after checking your fix.

Looking into it, its not EVERY game.

I dont experience this with Dota 2, Half Life, Borderlands 2, lot of other games.

I lock BL2 to 60, it happens sometimes, but i can say that what ive noticed, it happens a lot more upon loading new areas, or if sometimes something comes up in the corner.

I've noticed it happens in Aliens when i come into a new area with maybe a lot of enemies, it happens in far cry 3 at the same palce every time i enter this section and out again, it happens in skyrim randomly and it happens very rarely inbordelrands 2

have you ran a memtest?

^^^ This or virus?

Check everything memtest, crystal disk test on all Hd`s and down clock cpu to see if you have a bad one.

Stutter is down to interruption in CPU/GPU cycles anything can cause it, you just have to methodically go through every component to find the problem. ;)

Get a old HD and reinstall windows on that and see if it stops. Worst case is dodgey MB like I have!

Can you check what mode your hard drive is running in? On my old machine sometimes mine used to go to PIO mode which was dog slow.

If you have AHCI enabled this won't be an issue though.

If its PIO and he has AHCI on it wont even boot never mind stuttering.

Stulid is a good guy on this stuff PM him.

I've seen similar behaviour when VRAM is exhausted. Try monitoring it using Afterburner or similar.... although only likely to happen if you are playing with maxed out textures and/or high resolution with lots of AA.

I had this problem as well, it started after I installed my second SSD. The solution was to install intel rapid storage technology, which installed drivers as well, sorted everything straight away.

I wanna to point out, these arent huge hitches and stutters, they dont like borderline ruin gaming completely, but they are hella frusrtating in some games.

Specially far cry 3, random quick fps drops, sometimes bad sometimes worse, it doesnt like completely go mental, but its very quick, maybe the most a second and then goes.

It really agrivates me, but it doesnt happen on every game, DOTA 2 is fine, same with a few others, but Hitman did it once or twice very few times, la noire does it but in a different way (the fps doesnt drop during it using the 60fps unlocker) and it doesnt happen much in skyrim and bisohock infinite after i aplied the poolsize thing to bioshock and the ugrid to skyrim

Use display driver uninstaller to blast off most of the old drivers.

Failing this, rebuild machine

Already rebuilt machines before.

I dont honestly dont think its my side, i really think it's a problem with just a select few games, i can list games where it does happen. I've noticed its mainly the ones listed, Aliens (not as bad) Far Cry 3 (horrible port) Skyrim (classed in its own dimension of horrible ports) and a few others like LA Noire (but i think thats more cause im externally unlocking the fps to 60 and the framerate doesnt even drop during these random judders)

Because i can sit and play Dota fine, Street Fighter 4 fine (it happens very very very very rarely in sf4, even then its not actually stutter, its the screen tearing going over the characters model suddenly and making me think it was a stutter) Dishonoured, DMC, FEAR 3, Any Source game, Sleeping Dogs, Spec ops The Line, Fall Of Cyberton.

I just think it might be me personally looking too deep into it, it does happen at times where i think it would happen, (Loading new areas, turning around into a group of enemies really quickly, autosaving etc)

I just hope it isnt my rig.

"Samsung Green - HARDRIVE: 2TB" I'd be worried about that personally. Low performance drives can cause issues believe it or not. It isn't always limited to games that constantly load textures. Drives get slower over time, especially those energy efficient eco drives. They are really meant for storage as opposed to heavy usage. I would never recommend ECO drives for your OS / Main Games. SSD's are cheap these days, grab a 240+ put OS and ya main games and test.

Failing that I'd try a different monitor, different video cables.
