Need help choosing a new car

The Leon is horrible, the mechanics are good but the rest of it just feels horrible, especially the interior. At least the Golf and A3 feel nicer...

I'll second that, the last OK Leon was IMO the now ancient Mk1, at least that one used an old Golf interior so felt well built.

The A3 on the other hand (and Golf) are very decently built cars, this money should be targeting full spec slightly older ones, though.

The approved used car would be tempting....but is it £1500 better? Not sure

Don't touch a Merc, it'll end in tears and it doesn't sound like your really prepared for the cost of running one.....or need a relatively high powered diesel car

And yet he was recommended an FN Civic 1.8 in the same thread...

When I was thinking of swapping my car for something a bit more racy I drove an FN2 type R...horrible. NO quality at all.

Compared to the golf or a3 the interior build quality isn't there I'd agree, compared to a Leon its leagues ahead in terms of both style and materials. They just got it so wrong with the Seat

Compared to what though? My car history is of a P Reg Ford Fiest Ghia (first car), Astra SXi Mk4, Astra VXR mk5...

In fairness the consistency of build quality isn't there with the civic. My diesel one never rattled or creaked that I can remember, I've fixed about 5 in a few months of owning the fn2.

It does have a much more interesting looking (IMO) interior than everything else mentioned here though

8k for a Focus with twiddly knob HVAC controls, no thanks. The 6k Fiesta Zetec that garage has will be quicker and has better spec.

Please don't take this personally, or as a go, but this is why I'm getting so frustrated. Every car I like or think is a good choice, someone one is telling me it's no good. I feel like I can't win or pick a good car. Pulling my hair out.

My thoughts are it's cheaper, and I could wangle £500 off which would pay for a new HU (zenec Ford fit) which would bring back the bluetooth etc

It needs to be Focus sized for RC stuff to fit.

Fair enough, but unless I go old with high mileage I'll not be owning an Audi any time in my life...
Why?

I bought my car a few months ago, 2008 A3 1.8t FSI S-Line S-Tronic Sportback, 29k miles - £9995.

There are still such cars out there on autotrader and your budget is £10k... Manual cars are £1500 cheaper.

It would be okay for 5-6k at the very most, it's too much to spend on a non ST mk2 Focus.

Are you on commission?

TBH mate you're better off looking for a decent car, then deciding how to get there rather than limiting yourself to the immediate area.

Your budget gets you a 2011 Skoda Octavia in Elegance trim - have you considered?
