What is your notice period, and are you in a contract at all?

Phone up, ask for final inspection on the 9th agree any moneys owed either way and hand over keys.. job done

Dear XXXX

We will be leaving the flat on the 9th Sept 2014. You are fine to to visit and inspect the property. We expect our deposits to be returned to us VIA the DPS you put the deposits into if you are happy with the condition of the property.

If you have any questions before hand please do contact us. We shall give you the keys on the day that we leave, or we will post them through the letter box if you cannot come on the day.

Thanks

XXXX

Same as always. Tell em what you're gonna tell em. Tell em. Tell em you've told 'em.

Leaves no room for conjecture.

ie

We're sorry to say we're leaving.

We're leaving on the 9th.

Arrangements re: keys, inspection, deposit.

Thanks for renting to us, good look with new tenants.

Yours.

You don't need to be eloquent about it. Just say you've found somewhere else to live, and you plan to vacate on [insert date here].

Mine just got an email saying I was leaving on x date. Simple as that. You have nothing to thank them for or talk about, you paid them a lot of money to live there. As you say you haven't even dealt with the landlord so even more reason to just give it to him straight. If you knew him and he actually did you a favour or two it might be different.

Thank you,

And please don't use a UV light in the bedroom :p

Seriously though. Take pictures of everything you can, just in case they try and say x was damaged
