Hi, not used Ps3 for months. Popped into town today and picked up BF4 for £15

Have been playing it for a couple of hours and fans are now on full. PS3 feels quite warm. Noisy fans.

Should I be concerned?

It is a Fat PS3 so, some years old now.

I have done the Power on whilst holding Eject button and hoovered it trick.

If the old fat ps3 fans go on full whack they do get really loud (even louder than 360s) used to happen when I played gta4

This happened to me a couple of years ago. Took it apart and the thermal paste on the processor (I assume it was the processor?!) had completely dried up.

Squidged a load on there, slung it all back together and it was much better.

There are youtube guides out there for doing it.

However, the old fat PS3 is just bloody loud anyway!! Are the new slims much quieter?
I was thinking about getting one for my bedroom for a blu ray player and playing netflix and occasional lazy gaming.
If they're anything near as loud as the fat one I won't bother....

Yes. Quite loud indeed. Just turned it off and removed hard drive and blasted it all over with the air compressor in the garage.

See if that sorts it. Granted I do have a home with a dog and cat. Yet the house is tidy and clean. Just do not fancy taking it to pieces to see if there is any more build up of dust within

I had mine for 4 years and by the end I could not watch movies on it anymore as it was like a hairdrier!

Time for a PS4. I had a PS3 FAT on launch, had it 3 years and it died, probably due to overheating, tried fixing using the thermal compound method and had no luck, so ended up buying a PS3 Slim when they launched. The old FAT PS3s are notorious for overheating and having minor fan issues, I remember in the summer time, because of the heat in my room and the PS3 not having enough breathing space it would sound like a jet engine. Especially when playing games like Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV and Killzone 3.
