Robin Williams found dead at home

I wish more people understood depression. Many of you have probably seen this.
The thing with depression is, it can be hard to control it. You might have a loving family around you, a good job and even a few quid in the bank. But it doesn't stop depression taking hold. I can appreciate why some people don't understand because it's probably hard to comprehend unless you've been through it.

I've no idea if this has been mentioned as I am not going to read the whole thread, but it seems people have leaked pictures of his body. Its very obvious from the picture that he hung himself. I cannot for the life of me work out why people would leak these pictures and hope whoever is responsible is dealt with.

People like to see that stuff out of morbid curiosity, unfortunately for some.

Completely irresponsible reporting of this in the Daily Mail and Metro this morning. Goes against all advice on reporting suicides. :(

Fake apparently

I must admit, I really didn't find him funny and too full on for my tastes. I found him excellent in Good Will though and it still stands as one of my favourite films. 'It's not your fault' etc. /weeps

It's not him, it's an old picture.

Just proves that when people write upsetting things about people on the net, it does affect people - people who are going through a very difficult time in their lives.

Did anyone ever dispute that? She was getting tweets directed at her so of course they're going to affect her, someone on this forum making a joke about his death isn't going to however.

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but why?

Sensationalist reporting of a suicide often leads to copycat attempts. It's especially dangerous when newspapers link a probable cause ('financial difficulties') with details of the method with which the person killed themselves. The Daily Mail and the Metro have done so on their front covers.

The Samaritans have some great advice on their website about how to report cases like this. Their "ten things to remember" is a good starting point.

I did not know this, thank you for explaining.

It's the same with school/mass shootings. Advice to media outlets has always been to essentially ignore it, or at least not reveal the killers identity. It's never adhered to though.
