Fall of the Titan?

He doesn't need to it's common knowledge.:D

My money would be on the 290X at 4K Neil. :D

The PC gaming market doesn't stand still, and while the latest games consoles are competing at a paltry 1080p,
we're already lamenting the fact that we've yet to see a single-GPU solution that truly excels at ultra-high-res 4K gaming.
MSI's GTX 780 Ti Gaming 3G comes close, and it has the beating of Radeon R9 290X,
but we may have to wait for a next-generation derivative for perfectly-smooth, high-quality 4K gaming from a single-chip card.

I have three reviews here showing the opposite, however no point engaging in the graph war. I look at it like this, at 4K they're pretty equal, so why pick the card with less vram and a smaller bit bus. Of course you may look at it differently. One things for sure, chuck another card in the 290X pulls clear with ease.

4 GPU's is the only situation where where you can't get as many Vapour-X in the rig, i'll give you that but that is an extremely narrow set of circumstance.

You also don't need more than 4GB to run 4K unless you run high levels of AA which is also just a performance drain with no IQ difference, so removes the need for 4 GPU's.

2 or 3 290X / 780TI is the same as 4 Titan Blacks visually

You can not get three on a mobo either due to the coolers.

In therory you could bodge 3 on an old style RIVE using the black PCI-E slot but this is not a good idea as whyscotty could not get this solution to run properly even with 8 Packs help, the mobo is not supposed to be used in that configuration.

As MjFrosty has also pointed out there is also the heat generated which would cause massive problems, I agree with this as it is bad enough running a couple of 7970 matrix platinums on that board with a big space.

Apart from the fact Gibbo has the last twenty of these 8gb cards left in the whole world (so anyone wanting to try 4 had better be quick) I really don't think using more than two of these cards is a serious option. This is a shame as they are really nice cards and I did give some thought to using them myself when they first came out.

Kaap, I have played BF4 MP at 4k, I have completed Campaign twice, once in DX once in Mantle

All Ultra 4K internal Res without AA, 35 to 65 FPS, about 50 Average. oh and 3.3GB peak vRam

This is one R9 290, BF4 all IQ on Ultra @ 4K. perfectly playable.

Two cards like that in CF gives you very good performance at the same setting and res, what is the point of 4 GTX Titan Black's? do you have a 144Hz 4K screen?

BF4, the ultimate benchmark in pushing hardware :o:rolleyes:

I expect because you're at 1080P. At 1440P i use more vram than that, enough so that eventually i exceed the limit. On DX it's perfectly fine mind and extremely fast.

thing is, at actual 4K, you do need some AA (not lots, but not none), plus dips to 35 would not really be what most people would call acceptable

All yours are fake :p

I have played BF4 maxed @5120 x 3200 on 4 Titans and got better fps than you (the average @stock was 69fps) that is the point.

4 Titans also don't suffer from microstutter or Mantle VRAM problems at very high resolutions either QED.

GPUs are tools they all do a job, it is just a case of picking the right one for the right job - it is silly to bash them on price if they are very good at what they do.

Of Course you did you have 4 Titans I have 1 290, my GPU cost £300 yours £3,000.

I don't get this obsession of yours that you must have 4 GTX Titans, I have one 290, I have the same visual game play experience, don't suffer from SLI microstutter and am £3,000 better off for it.

Another £300 for another 290 would give me the perfect 4K gaming.

All this seems to me trying to justify thousands of £ on GPU's where it makes no difference from a fraction of that cost, a

*foley with a purpose*.
