So my girlfriend has literally just moved into a new flat about a week ago. I have come to visit and we watched a couple of episodes on 4od, she now had a letter saying there is going to be an inspection of her flat for TV licence things. She has no TV and doesn't intend on getting one, she has no TV licence. Is this all talk or is there any reason to worry?

Thanks

Send a letter back saying...

"Why you gotta be so rude?
Don't you know I'm human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I'm gonna watch On Demand anyway"

TVL send threat letters as standard practice.

If they're "To the occupier" you can ignore them (as long as you don't need a TV license). In this case your goal is to not give them your name - or talk to them at all for that matter. They'll continue sending threat letters which can be ignored.

If they're in her name - eventually TVL will summon her to court - so she's kinda forced into talking to them. They always assume people are lying so will turn up at the door even if she tells them she doesn't need a license. You don't have to let them in, but they'll continue the harassment if you don't.

Screw the BBC, time they went commercial and paid they own way. Nothing good on BBC anyways politically correct dramas and repeats. Plus founding for fringe channels for minorities which should be commercially funded.

BBC Persia,America etc, wtf?

Exception: If you only watch catch-up services online, then you don’t need a licence. For example, you don’t need one to use BBC iPlayer, or ITV player, to catch up on programmes after they have been shown on TV.

You only have to pay the license if you are watching/recording live TV streaming from the internet. If you are just watching catch up services then you don't need to worry.

If you want to be safe, just respond with a letter explaining your situation.

BBC World including BBC America is commercially funded.

I've always wondered if there was a device that would record live TV and play it back to you 1 second later, therefore making it not live, but still appearing live to the viewer

It's called a Sky+ box (or similar).

But then the device is still recording live TV as it is broadcast, so a licence is required.

True that. I wasn't sure if the act of recording live TV required a license, if you could actually prove you had no means of watching it live

edit: never mind, answered above
