Chocolate in chilli

i too have added far to much chocolate into a chilli before and it ended up tasting very bitter. the saving ingredient to counteract the bitterness wasn't sugar, but honey (yes i know honey is full of sugar...) and it ended up tasting ok

Not entirely vegetarian, no, but you wouldn't put chicken or fish in a proper chilli :p.

We have had chicken chilli and yes its delicious. But it just isn't the same.

Lol :D

Though I would have thought that not eating red meat in France was in some way illegal? Do the locals know about your deviances?

It is really quite hard to be a vegetarian in France, let along the weird diet we follow (mostly raw food veganism, but with chicken and fish).

If we do stay here, I may well go back to being a fully fledged meat eater, but I will still tread very lightly with the red meat. I just feel a hell of a lot better since giving it (and dairy) up, and I'm much healthier/fitter. And I no longer have to work to keep my weight down.

How much of that is down to increased exercise and such though? I'm not sold on the idea of red meat and dairy being that bad for you (unless you have intolerances of course). Though obviously plenty of people have diets that mostly consist of red meat in the form of Big Macs and the like...

Anyhow, to each their own :) I certainly could do with improving my diet though for me it's more increasing my vegetable intake than anything else.

I wouldn't say that I've increased my exercise as such, I've just changed it. Climbing certainly burns a lot more calories than cycling around East Anglia.

Red meat was purely a health choice for cholesterol and blood pressure. You're right, with a well balanced diet it shouldn't matter, but we thought that since we so rarely ate red meat anyway, why not just give it up. There is a history of heart disease in my family so giving it a helping hand can't hurt.

Dairy...now dairy is an interesting one. As you probably know we can't digest lactose, and there is plenty of evidence to show that milk in particular isn't good for you, and anything in it that is good for you is more easily obtainable elsewhere, in food stuffs that is more tasty too! For me Dairy simply helped keep the unnecessary weight on.

It sounds like you've made changes for the better anyhow :)

Personally I'm not sure I could give up dairy - cheese and butter in particular. Milk I tend to normally only have with americano coffees (I can happily drink (decent) espresso without it). Butter and cheese though, they're just so delicious. Brioche, crumpets lathered in butter, croissants, pizza and even the basic cheese on toast. My tastebuds would rebel and murder me if I tried to deny them :p

Butter is the only dairy I have, and even that is pretty rare these days, and the little cheese that is on the rare pizza. Its really not that hard to give up :)

It probably depends on what your food tastes are :p

I enjoy using things like coconut oil for various things but I still really love all the other dairy stuff I've listed above. My mouth is actually watering thinking about it, despite being extremely full. Maybe I have a problem

I made sure that the boss learnt to make vegan croissants before we came here. Fresh baked croissants two/three times a week - and you really can't tell the difference :).

I don't believe you. The only way to convince me is to ship me a big batch of freshly-baked croissants or to feed them to me when I finally get to cycle around the Alps :p
