So is it really worth getting a gaming mouse ?

Does it do anything other than give you a few extra buttons and change the dpi so that the screen moves faster?

I've been using a decent enough logitech wireless mouse, which is ever so nearly as good as a typical (non gaming) wired mouse but ever since upgrading to a mechanical K70 KB, i decided to get the unsightly wires back out and go back to a wired mouse. Just for that tiny hardly noticeable extra little bit of smoothness, compared to the wireless.

Will a gaming mouse make the cursor move any smoother, or is that simply limited to using an LCD and just being limited to the 'ms' of the screen.

Would I be better off putting that money towards a 144hz screen instead of my 60hz LCD ? or even better waiting for the gsync screens to come out.

Yes, definitely worth it. Ignore the stupidly high DPI mice.

Gaming mice are worth it for me for the following reasons.

1. Low lift off distance
2. Extra Buttons
3. On the Fly DPI switching
4. 1000hz polling
5. Prediction free sensors

I have a bit of a mouse fetish and currently own the following along with 5+ pads ranging from steelseries QCK to Steelseries 9HD hard mat.

Logitech G1
Logitech G9
CM Xornet
Steelseries Sensei
Zowie Mico
Zowie EC2
Zoeiw EC2 Evo
Sidewinder X5
2 X WMO 1.1A

I'm only this obsessive because I play Quake 3, it's funny because the mouse I keep going back to is the WMO 1.1a that can be bought for less than 7 quid on ebay.

Are you a low sensitivity gamer?
Do you lift the mouse off the surface a lot?
What grip? Palm or Claw?

My favorite mice of all time are the WMO 1.1a( for quake) and the EC2 Evo for other games where side buttons and DPI switching is useful.

Best all round mouse that I would recommend is the Deathadder from Razer or EC2 Evo.

Definitely want to upgrade your monitor to 120hz or wait for Gsync. 60hz gaming is pretty bad for latency etc.

I have the logitech g600.

Its an amazing piece of kit and has changed the way i game.

I would definately recommend it, if u r serious about ur gaming.

Yup most definitely! Since getting a zowie fk1, I am hitting 28% accuracy with the highest recoil guns in bf4 :D (before was hitting about 19-23%) Have also had a logtiech mx518, g400 and razer deathadder and notice a difference with them all.

Although I wouldn't spend any more than £50 on a mouse.

Main thing that matters with monitors and mice is input lag, ideally want as low as possible. 120/144hz is noticeably better but 60hz is still perfectly fine for gaming, imo higher refresh rate monitors are only worth it if you are really into quick paced comp. FPS shooters, especially CS:GO and quake

Thanks. You seem to know your mice. :p OK cutting a long story short, i'm a lefty, so i need an ambidextrous one.. I also am a little fussy, i want to run really smoothly across my mouse matt. I've found that a lot of regular mice, seem to have a rubbing feel, whereas some glide really smooth. So with that in mind, i need one for a lefty, and one that uses whatever material on the base that makes it glide with no noise smoothly.

What do you recommend ?

Well I switched to a Razer Deathadder few years back from a 'regular' mouse and did find a huge difference, particularly in games like Counter Strike. Lot more comfortable to hold but then again I've mostly used budget kind before it. Not exactly a huge investment either so once it breaks then I'll just about another. Although seeing price of some of them duped with some super duper features, ridiculous DPI numbers and all sorts of strange designs I would think twice about buying one that's ridiculously expensive.

Dont get caught out by the stupidly high dpi that some mice have, it's awful.

My advice would be to get a good optical mouse like the Zowie mice or the Razer Deathadder, they're far better than the usual lasers on gaming mice.

Zowie FK1!

:p

Best FPS mouse on the market atm. Using the best optical sensor currently and glides nice and smoothly on my OCUK XXL mouse mat, although if you are getting a new mouse mat, get either the QCK+ or QCK heavy.

Im the same rank on cs with the 7 quid mouse as when I have sensei.
It does not make you better but theres no doubt it increases the range of control you have available. So you still have to improve yourself but the mouse wont stop you so much.

Ideally I'd like to try the rival or a zowie but I think its a case of diminishing returns

8ms vs 16ms to update the screen I think that is. It would be a bigger deal at pro level but still a minor point imo, again like the mouse you cant really blame it when starting out as most players have more to learn then just response time.

With the fancy mice, you might get higher polling time. so 250hz now maybe, can go up 1000hz which I use but that is only 1ms down from 4ms. Not a big deal

I use a Logitech Performance MX, love it. Probably the best mouse I've ever had alongside the MX518. Not a gaming mouse, but far more comfortable than the ones I'd used.

Comfort > tracking > everything else, IMO.

I've used a steelseries ikari for the last 5 years or so, hands down the most comfortable mouse I've ever used compared to several razers and logitechs I tried before it, and despite the scroll wheel being awful I can't find a replacement that is as simple and comfortable as the ikari. No gimmicks, no flashing lights or other nonsense - just comfortable with excellent tracking and dpi adjustment.

MX518 is probably the best ratter I've ever encountered for games. I also use a Performance MX. A big bugger and a little heavy but very responsive. Looking to go back to wired though tbh.

For right and left hands.

Check the Lachesis Razer Mouse. It's perfectly symmetrical.

Bought it ages ago and its my main mouse, I love it.

Most definitely worth it.

I'm using the G500 and I would not get the same feel and performance from a pound shop mice. It fits my hands perfect, especially with my palm grip which does not fit well with a lot of smaller mice available.

Definitely worth it.

You can;t go wrong with Logitech. MX518 is the best all-round mouse I have used.

I also have one with loads of buttons which comes in handy in some games.

What do you recommend ?

Razer make a left handed version of the Deathadder so I'd recommend that, I've used the right handed version for the last 4-5 years in all kinds of games and love it.

In my view my G700 is not the right shape, is poor when in wireless mode and has too many buttons.

I miss my old G5. My next mouse will be a G5 (or modern equivalent). It was awesome.

Definitely worth it.

A quick Google of MX518 and it looks just like my G5 did. Buy one OP!
