A display of 22 military aircraft from nine countries will fly over Newport and Cardiff during the Nato summit.

The RAF's Red Arrows will be joined by fighters from the USA, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and the Netherlands.

The flypast takes place over the summit at the Celtic Manor Resort on Friday 5 September at 09:00 BST.

People are advised to get the best view of the planes from Cardiff Bay at 08:30 BST.

In Newport, the display is expected at about 08:45 BST to the south of the city centre, over Spytty Park, Beechwood Park and Lliswerry.

A Wales Office spokesman said: "The display will represent some of the many Nato nations which have been involved in policing the air space across Europe as part of the Alliance's efforts to support and reassure its Eastern member states."

The display will be led by an RAF Typhoon flanked by two Polish Mig-29s and finished by the Red Arrows which will follow after a Voyager, the RAF's largest aircraft.

Other jets are due to include a Eurofighter and F-16 Falcons.

More than 150 heads of state and ministers will attend the summit on Thursday and Friday addressing conflicts, terrorism and cyber attacks while campaign groups are using the event to protest against military action.

I am trying to find details of flight paths, apparently they are heading in from Cardiff bay, if thats case I may see them, I may not, but they are pointing towards.

Is there anyway of finding out the actual path they are going to take?

My predicted path based on what they say is below

May not get to see it :( but I am not far from the bay, well I am where you have the M4 motorway split in to A48 and M4 near enough, wonder if they will have a slightly different route and will pass over.

I could run in to work a little late, maybe :p

I work at the Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport), so I could probably take pictures. Saw a formation of military choppers late last week. Sounded like thunder.. Patients on the wards did not know what the hell was happening!

In other news.. If any protestors cause issues for my commute on Thurs or Fri then expect a rage post :D

The Red Arrows just flew over my house - by time I got outside Wife was going naa naa nan na na - you missed them.

Damn

Which forum members ?:)

I have seen some aircraft already, mainly heli's, but will keep my eyes peeled.

Police presence around here at the moment is high, all over the roundabouts etc, I took a trip down to near the severn bridge earlier and there were vans upon vans of police every few miles passing on the motorway, and also convoys of military vehicles.

Expect to see a lot more of this in the next week or so

EDIT: Just had a heli fly over the house, not sure what it was, looked like a Westland? maybe not not to clued up on the names apart from the chinook, apache

Had a big military helicopter over the house earlier (Porthcawl). Can't say I've seen that kind here before.

I'll be sat in my car in traffic outside the hospital at that time, despite intending on being in work at 830. I work on Corporation Road but am unlikely to see it all so can't take pics.

Will ask the missus too though. I think she's off.

They should fly pretty much over my house.

A V-22 Osprey landed at the Celtic Manor a couple of days ago.

Newport is like a prison camp. Steel fences and Police everywhere.

I think the fencing is to stop Obama leaving the luxury of the Celtic manor and seeing the real side of Newport

:p

Should make my 4 deliveries to Cardiff & Newport interesting first thing Wednesday morning............
