Potteries Hackspace

Ok we need to put this one to rest. Newcastle-Under-Lyme is not in Stoke-On-Trent or Potteries.

It is not part of a 'potteries built up area'.

I demand OP and his organisation change the name to Newcastle-under-Lyme Hackspace or I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the evening sentinel.

Despite now catering for the whole of Staffordshire we decided to keep the name.

Better sharpen your pencil! ;)

It's on the cuff of Stoke-on-Trent and as many of you will be aware OCUK used to be based in the above. I dare say that Stokes and Snoozecastleliens would appreciate the differences?

just out of interest - if someone were to become self employed in some technical area and fancied some cheap place to work on projects - they could just join one of these hackspace places at a small monthly fee then simply turn up every day and have some free deskspace to work on their projects?

sounds a lot better than paying 400 a month for a desk somewhere...

I doubt that would be possible.
You'd probably need to pay business rates on the building for a start, then there'll be various other things (liability insurance?) which wont be applicable when using it for business purposes.

A subscription of £15 per month is recommended and a minimum of £5 per month.
No promotion of business interests

Yes absolutely, incubator space is an element we're exploring.

We've still got some hurdles to overcome before that's possible, but with enough subscriptions it is certainly possible.

You can do similar at the London Google campus. Just turn up and use a desk there or meet clients etc.

If the 'no business promotion' rule applied to membership organisations you could easily ban 90% of the people in the sports/motors subforum.
Most sports clubs and car clubs have membership fees.

It's clearly not a business promotion thread...

OK but suppose someone joined at the present £15 a month - what is the limit on the amount of hours per week they could use the facilities say? Or is there no limit/nothing preventing them form say turning up every day?
