AMD Radeon R9 295X2 to Get Promotional Price, Open to All

I tend to upgrade my gcards every 2-3 years,
Currently at 1080p on a 7950, A few games have got close/exceeded the 3gb buffer.

The 295x2 is tempting at this price, I just don't know whether the 4gb usable memory is enough, for the price of the card and considering future modern titles may use a lot of memory especially at 2560 or 4k resolutions.

It is tempting but I was waiting to see how the upcoming Nvidia cards are priced/performing.

As an aside I think 4GB will be plenty for 1440p and below for a while to come (unless very high AA is used).

I don't think i'll invest into 4k, but think i'll be aiming for 1440p for my next monitor, agreE on the AA and settings, just guess we'll have to see how game development makes use of the ps4 hardware. As you say it's probably best to hold back until we see what is coming from nvidia and amd in next few months too.

they wont be as good as this dual card will they !!!!!
you'd have to buy a top end Nvidia to even get close but it'll cost you a fortune:eek:

this card is still tempting me.... damn it.........as is a new pc case, but that only costs 90 quid

my 7990 is flipping great but runs far too hot, you cant Overclock it at all, this card is more powerful and can be overclocked !!!!!!
i'll never go back to a single card ever again, dual cards are way better, even if they do run hot.

Still so tempted to get 2 (although I'll probably split them and run them each with a 290) and a 4K monitor. Although I'm looking at the Ilyama, anyone know if it's any good?

Even with the deals on that's still ~£1840!

I hate decision making. I should hire a guy to just do it for me. I didn't realise how well the 295x2 scales with an added 290x. That would be quite the thing. Maybe I'll ask for a 290x as a Christmas pressy and toss it in with one of these bad boys :D

it overclocks almost the same too, no throttling back, but it also has a massive power draw, it's 270W more than mine.
it's quite a lot more powerful than the 7990

Gibbo :- your main competitor has dropped his price too, it's exactly the same as yours

Idk what to do :/

I have pre-ordered the Acer 4K GSync monitor since July to go with my single 780 3GB, and upgrade the GPU later and possibly buy 2 of the new 8GB ones.

However, this 295X2 offer is great. I could cancel the Acer monitor, buy the 295X2 and wait for Freesync 4K monitor later this year. Then upgrade GPU in couple years time.

Any thoughts?

Snap......I eventually decided to cancel my Acer 4K GSync pre order and order one of these instead, I figured it would be worth it to have a decent performance when I eventually get a 4K screen than being disappointed with majorly reduced FPS trying to game at 4K with just one Asus Poseidon GTX780.

Was also not sure getting an extra GTX780 would improve performance all that much at 4K and I'm sure 4K prices will continue to drop in time, doubt we will see the cards lower than this for some time though.

My main issue holding me back is TESO. I know for a fact that at 4K without AA eats the whole of 3GB VRAM, while the 780 is working a 30%.

So I doubt 4GB VRAM are going to make that difference of the 295X2 :/

Common sense, sounds good. Do it

Teso runs great at 4k on sli 780s. The 295x2 it will run even better.

It runs great on a single 780 too, even if you set from the settings the internal engine to render 4K resolution, you will be fine until you hit the big 500 player castle battles*.

According to MSI AB overlay, the 3GB VRAM is consumed, while the GPU runs at 30% speed, and we have 10-12 fps.

You have 780 6GB or 3GB?

(Funny some use the 32 player battles on BF4 as benchmark for a card :) )
