So lets say you went to the United States in 2012 and purchased a mega-millions lottery ticket while on holiday...

To your surprise you hit the Jackpot... 656 million dollars.... (Yes that's actually a number someone won in 2012)

What would your actions be?

Theoretically they are supposed to pay out, but since you are non-resident, there would be issues with the taxing... Which could result you in paying nothing in taxes, you would be unique case nonetheless.

What would you do with 400 million pounds?

In worst case scenario you still would have around 200-250 million pounds hitting your bank account.

but an Apple smart watch in 18K gold, then poo through my neighbours letterbox, leaving them a note saying it was a queen wasp, I should know my dad kills them for a living.

Buy a bank vault and convert the remainder to pounds coins, then go swimming :).

O and build that zombie proof house from the designs floating around on the Internet :).

donate 30% of interest to medical research, spend the other 30% interest an save the other 40% interest.
Create a foundation put most of my money into that foundation for future generations, the foundation would buy land from the interest.
Build a nice house, had a few people working for me, garden would have open and close air gyms with pools.

Male prostitutes would take up a fair portion of it. Some crystal meth and a personal gimp would take another chunk. Probably buy myself a Honda Civic 1.4 and never drive it. Just leave it parked outside my house so that my neighbours thought I was a nerd. Then I'd buy Greggs the bakers and reorganise the business so that every pasty they sold was broken and only cost 99p. Finally I'd buy all the tickets to Justin Bieber's next concert and burn them so that he has to perform to an empty stadium. I'd then have him shot by a Lithuanian hitman.

Throw money at any scientist willing to create human/cat hybrids. Have a private lab in North Korea where nobody is going to whine about ethics :p

Failing that, 3D print a giant wang in 24 carrot gold.

My answer is boring. I'd live similar to how I do now. Why?

I wouldn't want my son growing up to be an elite hack.

Would continue living humble and go about my day doing good deeds.

Day 1
Get the money somewhere safe.

Day 2
Figure out a plan for keeping it a secret.

Day 3
Quit my job.

Day 4
Pay off the mortgage.
Buy a new car.

Day 5
Figure out a plan for managing the money properly. So:
- I can't lose it
- It grows

Day 6
Figure out what I really want to do with my life.

Day 7
Rest

Quit job, buy land, build castle, hire footmen, conscript the serfs, marry a foreign princess in exchange for musketmen in colourful trousers, mount a challenge to the throne, move to next European power, repeat. By the time anyone starts taking me seriously I'll have most of mainland Europe and access to all the attack helicopters.

You'd be lucky to get an apartment in manahtten for that money. Try doubling it.
