How do you think the world (and humanity) will end?

So here is a nice upbeat beat thread for a Friday afternoon. What natural/manmade process/disaster do you think would make us completely extinct?

  • Giant asteroid
  • Giant solar flare or just general increased cosmic radiation due to our weakening magnetic field
  • Volcanic eruption
  • Nuclear war
  • Man made/natural super killer bacteria/virus/fungus
  • Man made/natural super killer (probably fungus) that turns people into zombies (most likely 28 days later style). Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophiocordyceps_unilateralis
  • Aliens
  • Boring old climate change
  • Terminator style judgement day (big machines)
  • Out of control nanobots
  • Out of control AI affecting people's augmentations (Deus Ex style)

Or do we survive all that and just be engulfed by the sun? OR do we crack space travel and just survive everything and live like in Sci-fi films.

If it's the latter, which 'universe' would it be most like? Star Wars, Star Trek or something else.

It better be zombies or some form of governmental collapse. I don't want this hoarding to be for nothing. I also bought 2 cases of US Ration packs so it better only be for about a month long.

Unless you're armed all you're doing is collecting supplies for the bigger, meaner SOB.

All avoidable by getting off the planet, which should as a race be our absolute priority along with playing nice with each other and trying to up the living standard of the world's poor.

Run out of resources (heavy metals etc), advancement of technologies ceases, employment of labour drops off, monetary systems collapse, civilisation collapses, disease spreads and mass production of food runs out, huge swathes of population die until an equilibrium is reached with enough land to sustain small pockets of peoples.

Meanwhile, nuclear reactors and storage facilities, previously shut down in panic, begin to break down, radioactive material begins to leach into the groundwater, poisoning the local populace leading to further deaths and infertility. Surviving human populations decrease further.

Mankind clings on for thousands of years until climate changes reduce their now limited habitat further. Slowly they get displaced by other competing organisms. Perhaps a similar, but better environmentally-suited, ape type.

Aliens will use us for their own pleasure and kill us in the throes of ecstasy.

I've always wondered why Aliens traverse time and space, kidnap rednecks and then stick things in said rednecks butts. A hand shake and a how do you do would probably be a better way of going about things. I'm much more open to that type of thing once I get to know someone.

If you're going to do kinky stuff to people without their permission, then do it to people who simply won't be believed if they report it. They're clever, these aliens. Just like Jimmy Saville.

I think we'll separate into almost two distinct species with a worker human that is smaller and squat with a lower intelligence then a genetically superior super human that will subjugate the workers in their quest for galactic supremacy. The superior species will die from disease due to lack of genetic variation and the worker species will then just decline without any ability to shape their own destiny.

Sounds like something from an Asimov series.
